What city is your wedding in?

Stars align for this cute couple who said “I do” in a rustic garden wedding

Emily Simpson + Ryan Berger | Oct 2, 2016

Emily and Ryan met while interning at Ernest & Young’s Memphis office. Despite being interns in the same office, they didn’t actually meet until they were both in Nashville for a EY service day project. Emily suggested all the interns go out to dinner together and, according to Ryan, “Emily frolicked across the street when they came to pick her up.” That’s when he knew there was something special about Emily.

“I proceeded to order a brownie and margarita for dinner, which intrigued him even more,” said Emily. At the bar we hit it off talking about craft beer. Ryan told me he liked craft beer and when I asked him what his favorite craft beer was he said Yuengling (as an avid craft beer fan I was not pleased). Since then I have been in charge of ordering his beers.”

Both Emily and Ryan were working on transfers to the Charlotte office (unbeknownst to each other) at the beginning of their relationship. Since the relationship was so new, they didn’t discuss it until after the transfers had gone through.

“I knew God was at work when I found out we were both moving to the same city to start our careers,” Emily said.

Emily was inspired by her Charlotte wedding venue for wedding day, deciding on a classic garden theme with rustic, handmade touches. We love their window frame guest book (especially the advice from dad!) and the beer groom’s cake. The beer at the bar was named with phases of their relationship – we love the personal touch!

“The whole day was unforgettable,” said the new Mrs. Berger. “One of my favorite things was having Ryan’s childhood pastor and Ryan's grandfather both share their messages at the ceremony.”

“Our DJ Rich of Remarkable Receptions played music that pleased everyone in the crowd and the dance floor was never empty,” Emily said.

The impromptu circle the guests formed around Emily and Ryan during “Sweet Caroline” at the end of the reception was another one of their favorite memories, sharing a part of that song each guest.

“Our photographers were incredible. Some of the memories will fade but our beautiful pictures will last a lifetime.”

Photographer Mary DeCrescenzio said:

“ Emily is a lot like me – bubbly, friendly and outgoing. Ryan is a lot like my husband – the quiet confident type. I fell in love with them instantly. From the first FaceTime conversation to the last ‘thank you’ hug, working with these two was a dream.”
