Selecting a DJ can feel like an overwhelming task but once you meet Karl Mohr of Mohr Fun Entertainment, it instantly feels effortless.

“Clients hire me because of my personality. I want to find people that appreciate my upbeat demeanor,” said Karl. “I would consider myself eternally friendly, and that makes me more approachable.”

He is also the kind of person who always goes the extra mile for his clients.

“We deliver a premium service. We take every opportunity to go above and beyond,” he said. “People in the industry notice the little things that we do to make events awesome. Every tiny detail is geared toward enhancing the guest experience in subtle ways.”

Karl has always been passionate about music, but he didn’t anticipate how much he would come to love performing weddings.

“I started DJing in basements and bowling centers,” Karl explained. “Eventually, friends and family invited me to DJ their weddings. This was in the early 2000s, and I was really out of my element.”

With a full decade of experience catering weddings, it was an easy transition for Karl.

“Weddings are all about executing a pre-set plan. Timing is so important. People spend months and years planning the flow of a single day,” he said. “Once I realized that it wasn’t just about the music, I became confident enough to lift myself to the task of being a better DJ—and started my debut as an emcee.”

Since that first wedding, Karl has performed more than 250 weddings with wedding number 300 right around the corner. His company has grown to include one additional performer and two part-time event professionals, all who share Karl’s passion for exceptional service.

“I was hesitant to add more staff because I didn’t meet anyone in the industry that I felt would consistently live up to my standards. So, I grew my own,” said Karl. “I found a college student with the same passion for music as me who I could teach. I do my best to keep him busy every weekend. I sell Ben on events with the permission of the client. It’s never a surprise. He’s the most advanced DJ I have ever met that was twenty something—maybe he’s even better than I am.”

Mohr Fun Entertainment can also provide clients with features beyond music to enhance their event, including a full-service photo booth rental, customized event lighting and projected slideshows.

But at the end of the day, playing music is what he lives for:

“I’ve grown a lot as an emcee. That comes with the territory. But the most fun part of the day is the dance party. I love to make people happy using music. That’s what I’m all about.”

With a diverse music library, Karl argues that it’s easy to get people to the dance floor—as long as you know what to play when.

“I like music from a broad range of time periods and genres, which matches perfectly with weddings that are typically diverse in age range and background,” he said. “I enjoy being able to play something that everyone can relate to.”

That being said, there is certainly no universal recipe for an amazing event. Which means that Karl’s approach morphs to match the vision of the client.

“If I’m left to my own devices, I use the microphone only when strategicallyappropriate,” he said. “I straddle the line between energetic and reserved. I like to say that I am enthusiastic but endlessly professional.”

That energy translates to every announcement he makes, which means it’s no surprise that introductions are one of his top two moments on wedding day.

“The wedding ceremony is one of my favorite parts of the day because it leaves everyone feeling warm and fuzzy,” he said. “Other than that, nailing the grand introduction is also very important. I lovegetting everybody hyped to welcome in the newlyweds. Introducing the bride and groom is the highlight of every event for me.”

After all, the introductions truly kick off the celebration!
