A Winter Wedding with a Quiet Mountain Theme

Kelly + Mark | Jan 27, 2018

Kelly and Mark met in one of the most unique ways we’ve seen yet! They are both into the Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA) which is an international organization dedicated to studying and re-creating the arts and skills of Pre-Seventeenth Century Europe (basically, medieval reenactments). They both ride horses and met during the equestrian portion of their first SCA event where Mark was dressed in medieval attire and Kelly was dressed as a Viking shield-maiden. They hit it off and the day ended with Mark leaving with Kelly’s number! He asked her out on their first date that weekend and they took their horses on a trail ride through the woods. Later on, during one such trail ride, Mark proposed to Kelly in the middle of an endless field of wildflowers. It was just the two of them and their horses; Kelly couldn’t have asked for a more perfect proposal!

The underlying theme of Kelly and Mark’s gorgeous winter wedding was “the quiet beauty of the mountains.” They chose deep, rich colors with dark red at the center, a nod to the Christmas season. Muted greens and earth tones rounded out the winter color scheme. Kelly and Mark had a religious outdoor ceremony  at the Farm at Green Heron Pond surrounded by nature’s natural beauty and recognized their marriage as a sacred covenant by braiding a three-strand cord together to represent their new union.

They had a small, romantic reception where they wanted their guests to feel as if they were a part of fairytale winter dinner. They used antique dinnerware with images of castles imprinted on them in a deep red color to match their color scheme while wine red velvet linens and candlelight added to the romantic vibe. The florals were a perfect representation of Kelly and Mark’s wild, adventurous, nature-loving personalities and they chose to emphasize the beauty of the mountains through red blooms and loose greenery that were perfectly accented by wispy branches and wild grasses. Kelly and Mark chose to have a live bluegrass band as the entertainment for their day and they and their guests loved the lively twang of the instruments so much that it was hard not to dance the night away! Kelly and Mark had the best time and truly made their most special day about what’s important: THEM!

When asked her wedding day advice, Kelly said, “Take time for you, let others handle things, and fuel yourselves.  Getting married takes a lot of energy! So, eat, drink, and be married.”

Congratulations, Kelly and Mark!
