A Colorful Brunch Wedding with a Ceremony Complete with a College Mascot and Grandma Flower Girls

Fuchsia and bright colored preppy brunch wedding, full of calligraphy and sprinkles at Pinehurst No. 9 in Pinehurst, North Carolina

Sarah and Quentin met at Campbell University in their accounting class. Before they even went on their first date, Quentin told Sarah he was going to marry her someday – and he was right! They dated for four years, nearly two years of which were spent long distance due to Quentin being a part of the PGA program at Campbell. 

When the time came, Quentin surprised Sarah with a proposal at a local Chinese lantern festival. A year later, the couple planned the most amazing brunch wedding – on a golf course no less! The preppy and colorful day was perfectly planned and screamed “Sarah and Quentin.” From showcasing Sarah’s hand lettering business to highlighting the love for their alma mater and Quentin’s golf background, every detail meant something. 

“Both of our styles are very classic and preppy, and I knew from the beginning that I wanted to incorporate that and also I am a huge fan of bright colors and really wanted to tie those in to create a vibrant and joyful overall feeling,” explained the bride. “When people came up to me throughout the day and said, ‘this is so perfect for you guys,’ it was the greatest compliment I could have received! The day looked and felt like us all the way around.”

The wedding was planned for November and it was a perfect fall day. The ceremony site was outside on the golf course overlooking the green and a pond. There was a 10 foot gold hoop set up at the front of the ceremony that was decorated with greenery and colorful flowers. The couple stood in front of the hoop as they exchanged their vows and became husband and wife. That wasn’t before their alma mater’s mascot, Gaylord the Camel, walked down as part of their processional and took his seat or before both grandmas walked down as the flower girls!

Sarah was escorted down the aisle by both of her parents. She wore a custom two piece dress that had a tulle skirt with a fuchsia sash and sequined top. Believe it or not, Sarah’s original dress was destroyed in a studio fire four months before wedding day. A close friend of hers was able to custom make a new dress in that time. It must be nice to have such talented friends!

“My favorite part of the dress was the fuchsia sash, but the most special part about my dress was that a dear friend actually custom made it for me,” said Sarah. “Having someone I love create something just for me was so special!”

Quentin was standing in his custom made navy blue suit that he paired with a striped pink tie, waiting for Sarah to meet him. His groomsmen stood next to him in matching suits and solid pink ties. What you couldn’t see were the matching socks everyone was wearing with golf balls and tees on them! Something else you might not have noticed were the golf tees in all of the gentlemen’s boutonnieres – talk about creative!

On the other side of the groomsmen were all of Sarah’s bridesmaids watching her come down the aisle. They all wore fun long sleeve, short dresses that had a navy top and navy and white striped bottom. Our favorite part of their look were the colorful fringe necklaces they each wore that completely complemented the colorful flowers they held. Their bouquets were a smaller version of Sarah’s and were full of bright colored blooms in fuchsias, yellows and oranges. 

Once Sarah took her place next to Quentin, they let their very special officiant welcome everyone. The wedding was officiated by Dr. Jerry Wallace, former President of Campbell University. Considering the university is where the couple met, this meant a lot to them. The religious ceremony included a braiding ceremony that was made extra special by the fact that Sarah and her dad build the board that held the ropes together and by the fact that they passed the ropes through the guests at the start of the service, so everyone could share a blessing in the cords. The board that held the cords also had a Bible verse painted on it that Sarah did herself.

After the sentimental ceremony came to an end, the couple shared their first official kiss as husband and wife, and shortly after met up with their guests in the ballroom for some delicious sounding brunch.

When guests entered the ballroom, we can only imagine how blown away they were with the set up and décor. For starters, there was a gold hoop hanging installment over the head table, similar to the one at the ceremony. Instead of one big hoop, there were a few smaller hoops connected with a touch of greenery and of course, colorful flowers. The tables were draped with navy blue and white striped linens set with white Tuscan crossback chairs. Each place setting at the table had an acrylic charger topped with a fuchsia napkin and silver hammered silverware. In the center of each table was a floral arrangement made up of more bright and colorful blooms. 

With the bride owning her own lettering business, we knew the signage and paper goods would all be on point! Each table number (which were thoughtfully named after each of the nine airports the couple traveled through during their long distance relationship!) was a fuchsia colored card with gold lettering that matched the escort cards at each seat. There were menu cards at each seat with a hand drawn floral accent and a little container of sprinkles with a label that read “sprinkled with love.” And it doesn’t stop at the tables, the seating chart was hand lettered on an oversized mirror, there was a sign for the cake, a love story sign, ice cream signs (because there was an ice cream cart at the end of the reception!) – the list goes on! 

Let’s go back to the mention of that cake sign for a minute. Next to the cute “eat cake for breakfast sign” – which was totally appropriate for this brunch wedding! – was an amazing looking three tiered cake. The cake had white icing but was spruced up with a layer of rainbow confetti sprinkles on the top of each tier. We are definitely a sucker for a sprinkle cake!

After the dancing and brunching and cake-ing, the day ended with an ice cream cart complete with signature bride and groom flavors and the bride and groom driving off in a vintage car. It was the perfect personalized ending for a completely personalized day.
