Terra Ecker + Jordan VanBeek | May 4, 2018
When Terra joined the Cary Rev volleyball league after college she kept seeing a “cute ref” at the games. Little did Terra know that Jordan (also known as the “cute ref”) told his roommates about the “pretty girl at volleyball.” They didn’t know their nicknames for one another and didn’t know the other was interested until Terra’s volleyball team took fate into their own hands.
Jordan ended up running into some of the girls from Terra’s team one night and, of course, they took it upon themselves to talk to him and get the dirt. After discovering he was in fact single, they got his number to pass along to Terra.
“I still have the email saved from our group email saying, ‘Terra we have great news, [in all caps],’” said the bride-to-be. “Little did I know that great news would end up being my future husband.”
It was love at first sight. The couple met at Backbar in Chapel Hill for drinks on a Tuesday night and haven’t stopped talking since. Good thing Jordan was a UNC basketball fan, otherwise this story could have ended very differently!
The couple bought their first home together in November and right before closing Jordan planned to set up a time to bring their dog, Rocky, over to see his new home. Little did Terra know that Jordan had plans for more than just Rocky. Right before they walked into the home, Jordan got down on one knee and said he wanted to go in as a family.
Hold a second while we dry our tears…
Not only did Jordan plan the sweetest proposal, but he had a friend hiding and taking pictures of the whole thing and had Terra’s entire family inside waiting for them. On top of that, Jordan put together a video montage of Terra’s extended family saying congratulations, ending with Theo Penson, a member of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s 2017 men’s basketball championship team. Seriously, Jordan could not have made this any sweeter!
Of course, when it came time to plan engagement pictures it was a no brainer for the couple to head to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus, Jordan’s alma mater and the place where Terra grew up. Chapel Hill is also the place where their relationship grew and strengthened – they had their first date in Chapel Hill, it was the first place they said “I love you” to one another, and naturally, where they celebrated UNC winning the men’s basketball national championship.
They took shots at the UNC Botanical Gardens and Dean Dome, where they captured the perfect shot underneath the championship banner and included a volleyball, because duh! Even their cute little dog Rocky made an appearance.
We can’t wait to see what the future Mr. and Mrs. plan for their May wedding in Pinehurst!
