Two Teachers and Surprise Proposal at Crowders Mountain

Kristen Carver + Jason Huffstetler | Apr 13, 2018

Kristen is a 27-year-old elementary school teacher from Stanley, North Carolina. Jason is a 27-year-old middle school teacher from Gastonia. It only makes sense that this future husband and wife hit it off! The two met at a high school basketball game – how fitting for teachers! –  last year through mutual friends and immediately knew there was something between the two of them.

It was not unusual for Kristen and Jason to take a hike at Crowders Mountain on the weekend, so it was no surprise to Kristen when Jason suggested a hike there on a normal Friday afternoon after the future bride-to-be came home from school.

As they were driving to the mountain, Jason was a bit chattier than usual. He kept telling Kristen he loved her and kept asking if she wanted to hike the easy trail or the hard trail. Kristen suggested the hard trail so they could get a good work out, but he was persistent to hike the easy one – then why ask?! Clearly Jason had other plans.

The nerves were obviously getting the best of Jason because he even used his turn signal to turn into a parking spot – something the couple got a good laugh out of later!

As they made their way to the pier, Kristen still had no idea her life was about to change.

“As soon as we walked down to the end of the pier, I propped my arms on the rail and that’s where our story begins,” said the bride-to-be. “He immediately started telling me how special I was and how much he loved me. All I could think was, ‘is this really happening?’”

Before she knew it, Jason was down on one knee asking her to marry him! As soon as she was able to speak, she spoke the easiest “yes” of her life! All she was worrying about was controlling her shaking and trying not to drop the ring in the cracks of the pier!

Jason had thought of it all for the proposal. He had a hidden photographer there to capture it and had rallied their families to celebrate the engagement afterward. The couple’s immediate families were waiting at Jason’s house to welcome the future bride and groom home and celebrate.

“When we arrived, I saw our all of the cars and immediately began to cry,” Kristen said. “Our families were able to celebrate together that evening the love that we share between one another!”

The couple worked with Cassie Leigh Photography for an engagement photo shoot and they are stunning! We can only imagine that they were transported back to the proposal as they strolled down a wooded path and waded through a creek. They enjoyed champagne in the park as they were captured enjoying one another’s company. The natural landscape set the perfect background for this couples engagement shoot.

In just over two months, Kristen and Jason will tie the knot and they could not be more excited! Congratulations to the future Mr. and Mrs.!
