A Bright, Colorful Wizard of Oz Inspired Styled Shoot

The Wizard of Oz really showed what color can do on the screen so when this classic film served as inspiration for a styled shoot it’s no surprise it was wildly colorful and fun. Since the infamous red poppies seen in the movie aren’t readily available in the U.S., a combination of red anemones and various types of poppies were used to represent the iconic flowers. The team wanted to represent all the colors associated with the movie; blue and white hydrangeas were reminiscent of Dorothy’s gingham dress; blush pinks paid homage to Glinda the Good Witch; and vibrant yellows, reds, and greenery were used to represent the scenic elements of the journey down the Yellow Brick Road.

Acrylic calligraphy signs were hand painted by Erica from Folie à Deux Events and featured iconic lines from the movie, such as “There’s no place like home…” and “Somewhere over the rainbow…” The décor invoked a glamorous, vintage feel with a hint of rustic Kansas farmhouse, Dorothy’s home. The tablescape was awash in vibrant florals paired with red sequined table runners, a nod to the ruby slippers. Vintage green glassware and vases were incorporated into the design (Emerald City, anyone?) to complete the tabletop.

The bride and groom’s attire and accessories were inspired by the movie’s era of old Hollywood glamour with touches of modern color. Vintage curls and the ruby red lips of the stunning, Hollywood starlet inspired makeup were the perfect complement to the bride’s gown that was the lightest shade of blush with lots of sparkle and glittering starbursts, like the ones that adorned Glinda’s gown in the movie. Ariel Kaitlin Photography expertly captured the whimsical feel of the theme and brought to life the most memorable images that come to mind from the fantastic film.

Erica from Folie à Deux Events says, “If you have an idea for a daring theme, or even just want to do something a little different... go for it. It is your wedding and there is no right or wrong way to do it. Let your creativity and aesthetic shine. Wedding themes do not have to be kitschy or overtly obvious, sometimes the subtle use of colors, textures, and words are all you need.”

This was such a fun and different shoot, perfect for the bride who isn’t afraid of color!
