Charleston, South Carolina
Magnolia was founded in 1676 and offers three historic venues that provide both a ceremony and a reception site - the Conservatory, Plantation House Veranda, and the Carriage House. With over 66 acres of romantic gardens, Magnolia Plantation provides a picturesque backdrop to exchange your vows.
1. The Conservatory is a beautiful, intimate indoor location perfect for a smaller group (maximum of 60 guests). The front of the Conservatory comes furnished with beautiful teak tables and chairs. To the side, there are French doors leading out to a large deck that overlooks our School House Pond and Magnolia’s red bridge. The back of the Conservatory features a winding path through a garden of lush, tropical flora. The way we typically set up the Conservatory is 60 people seated inside (comfortable maximum capacity) along with the food tables, cake, and gift tables. Outside on the deck is where the band/DJ, dance floor, and bar will be so it is very much an indoor/outdoor space. Please budget for a tent to cover the deck in case of inclement weather. Just a short stroll from the Conservatory, overlooking the Ashley River, is the School House Pond Lawn which offers a beautiful ceremony location surrounded by gardens. The Conservatory is the only venue that comes with reception tables and chairs. Ceremony chairs and any additional items will need to be rented through the caterer that you select.
2. The Veranda is a massive porch that is attached the the main plantation home and is located right in the heart of Magnolia’s gardens (this is an all outdoor venue). Offering expansive views of our beautiful Live Oaks and manicured gardens, this location is quintessentially Charleston as it offers a wrap-around porch, outdoor ceiling fans, plantation shutters, and a vast amount of history. The Veranda is a stunning setting for cocktail hour with an expansive back lawn overlooking the Ashley River for the outdoor reception. The ceremony site is just a short stroll through a romantic garden and has a stunning view of Magnolia’s famous long white bridge. It also features a charming gazebo that dates back to 1840 and overlooks our signature lake that is surrounded by beautiful oak trees. Please note we do not host events at this venue in July, August or November – first half of March since it is an all outdoor venue.
3. The Carriage House is the original carriage house for the plantation and dates back to 1840. It has a stunning view of the Ashley River and is surrounded by ancient Live Oaks, sweeping lawns, torches that line the river, and an outdoor fireplace and oyster tabby. The ceremony site sits underneath large oaks with dripping Spanish moss and expansive views of the river. The indoor reception space of the Carriage House features wrought iron chandeliers and exposed beams. The Carriage House can seat up to approximately 150 people for dinner and dancing or 200 if the dancing is outside. The lawn area can also accommodate an outdoor reception or be used as an addition to the indoor space.
