About

Shady Wagon Farm is owned and operated by Doug and Cindy Carroll in New Hill, NC. Resting within the relaxing countryside of the 22 acres they call home, their beautiful southern event venue was not what they had envisioned for themselves when they moved to Chatham county in 2006.

Doug Carroll grew up in the nearby Merry Oaks, which is “just a rock’s throw” from New Hill, and the township of Moncure, NC where Doug graduated from Moncure High School in 1961. Cindy Carroll grew up in Concord; a small town just outside of Charlotte, NC. She moved to Wake county early during the same decade.

For 35 years, the couple resided in Cary, NC. They owned and operated “Douglas Carroll Hauling” in the adjacent town of Morrisville. Cindy also baked and designed wedding cakes from her commercial kitchen, “Baking Dreams and Memories”.

Periodically, the couple would take a leisurely drive into Chatham county where Doug grew up to search for the perfect parcel of land to live out their retirement years. For two decades, Cindy held on to a house plan that she found in Southern Living Magazine. In 2006, they found and purchased their property off of Pea Ridge Road in New Hill, NC from one of Doug’s former classmates.

As the heavily wooded lot was cleared, and the house was being built, Doug began laying out the rest of the property, digging a one-acre pond, and starting work on a garage large enough to drive one of his hauling trucks through.

Then Cindy had an epiphany. The Lord put it on her heart that they should hold weddings and other events on the property. So, Doug sacrificed his garage and the Shady Wagon Farm event venue was born.
