Catie Curran + Kyle Crookshank | Apr 28, 2018
Whoever said it had to be the guy to approach the girl had it totally wrong. Catie messaged her now husband, Kyle, first after joining OkCupid… and the rest is history.
Catie joined OkCupid after getting out of a relationship and saw her roommate using the site. She did it purely out of curiosity and wasn’t expecting to meet her future husband! She had passed over his profile a few times because he was more than two hours away. But after about a week of lame guys, she decided to follow her instincts.
“I kept seeing his profile but he was two hours away so I didn't want to contact him without being able to meet up,” said the bride. “After about a week of lame guys, I decided to message him and said even though we were far away we should still be friends.”
There was no doubt in Catie’s mind that he was the one. She knew almost instantly after the first time talking to him.
A little less than four years later, Catie had just returned home from a trip to Nashville with her sister. Kyle returned home that same night from visiting his parents. As soon as he got home, he opened the door and said, “I have a questions to ask you.” Kyle knelt on one knee and held out his grandmother’s ring.
“We had already talked about marriage so I knew it was coming but it was still a surprise,” said Catie.
The couple began planning an emerald green-themed wedding which would take place the following spring at a beautiful garden venue just outside of Charlotte. The lush greenery and spring blooms at the gardens set the perfect backdrop for their dream day.
Catie walked along the winding stone walkway to the aisle as her groom wiped a tear from his eye. It couldn’t have been a more magical moment.
The bride’s gown was an amazing mix of sheer overlay, faint sweetheart neckline, and floral and button embellishments. She wore her hair pulled back in a low bun and pinned with an emerald green beaded hairpiece. Her shoes, also emerald green, had an amazing beaded heel. Where can we get a pair of these, please?
Kyle wore a light grey suit, a cream linen shirt and one of the coolest bow ties we have ever seen. The maroon bow tie had metallic emerald green long beads attached to it. He topped the look off with brown shoes, but not any normal brown shoes, brown shoes and emerald green shoe laces!
The emerald green doesn’t stop there. The groomsmen wore suits in a darker grey shade and emerald green striped ties. Catie’s bridesmaids wore gorgeous off-the-shoulder, floor length emerald green gowns, of course! They wore earrings that matched the metallic long beads from the groom’s bow tie. Talk about coordination at its finest!
After the couple exchanged their “I dos” in an intimate garden ceremony, they took some time to enjoy newlywed bliss. They strolled through the garden’s bridges, endless pathways and beautiful scenery. These sweet moments were perfectly captured by Amanda Moss Photography. The sweetest moment? When the groom helped to bustle his bride’s dress!
Inside the reception space, guests were greeted by the floral-inspired wedding cake. The cake had painted flowers on all three tiers. It was topped off with a single large bloom and a gold acrylic cut out of the couple’s new last name.
On the gift table was a charming hand painted drawing of the couple. The painting was a beautiful depiction of their wedding day, including them, their colors and flowers. There was also hand tied bags of honey sticks guests would enjoy as their favor later in the night.
Once the couple made their grand entrance, hand and hand, they headed to the center of the dance floor. Underneath the market lights, the couple enjoyed their first dance as Mr. and Mrs. A few parent dances and a delicious dinner later, the dance floor was packed for the rest of the night.
As Catie and Kyle shared one last sweet kiss on their first day as Mr. and Mrs., their closest family and friends surrounded them with sparklers for the grandest of grand send offs!
Congratulations to the happy couple!
