Samantha Alexander + Parker Hawkins | May 21, 2016
Despite having many things in common, it took a chance encounter for Samantha and Parker to meet. The two who both attended East Carolina University, were members of Greek life and majored in construction management, never formally met until a few years after graduation. Parker happened to attend a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game and sat in the section where Samantha was a cheerleader. The two locked eyes, and to this day Samantha still remembers seeing him for the first time. After the game, both contacted mutual friends about the other and the rest is history!
Although marriage was something they discussed, Samantha was still surprised by Parker’s proposal. On a weekend trip to the beach, the two were out for a morning fishing session when they were approached by a “Chamber of Commerce” photographer (a.k.a. a photographer Parker had hired). In the middle of the photo session, Samantha turned to face Parker and he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. When they called to tell their parents the exciting news, Samantha was surprised to see both families walking out over the dunes, champagne in hand. They took family pictures on the beach and it was so special to have this special moment captured forever.
As they began planning, the Raleigh couple envisions a southern spring pastel party. They chose a gorgeous historic estate with an outdoor ceremony space that would be filled with lush blooms for their May wedding date. The tables were outfitted in light airy shades of celery green, blush and champagne in various textures.
Parker is an avid outdoorsman so hunting was used as accent décor throughout the entire day including antlers printed on powder blue cocktail napkins, adorning the cake table and on custom koozies. Samantha’s personal favorite touch was the iced sugar cookies in antler and German Shorthaired Pointers (a shout out to their beloved dog, Duke!) shapes.
One of the most memorable moments of wedding day was Samantha’s grandfather officiating their ceremony. Since she was a teenager, Samantha had planned on him being the one to marry her when the time came and she was so thankful to share that moment with him. Chestnut & Vine Day-Of Wedding Coordination flawlessly executed the day and truly allowed Samantha and Parker to relax and take in all the wonderful moments.
Congratulations, Samantha and Parker!
