Lisa Carol + Nicholas Hines |
Lisa and Nicholas met and became great friends when they were in sixth grade. In their 10th grade year, his family moved away and, as it happens, life took them in different directions. However, in true fairytale fashion, they reconnected many years later, picked up right where they left off and have been inseparable ever since! Nicholas proposed on Christmas Day 2015 in their home, on bended knee, with an Irish flag and maps of Ireland.
For their wedding, Lisa and Nicholas hoped to marry in Ireland but due to the country’s requirements to wed, they had to bring Ireland to North Carolina instead (they are still planning to make the trip to Ireland and renew their vows there for their five-year anniversary). Their entire wedding was vintage Ireland inspired starting with a color palette of neutral earth-tones with splashes of green in their florals. They added a traditional Irish Celtic Handfasting ceremony into our wedding ceremony which is a Celtic tradition that involves binding the hands of the couple with ribbon or cord in a public to symbolize marriage vows. It was one of the most special moments of their day and they personally chose the different cords and braided the cords for the ceremony with their children.
Another highlight of the day for the couple was their exchanging of gifts. Lisa choose a pocket watch and had it shipped from Ireland for Nicholas and he chose a bracelet and earrings made from Connemara marble stones from Ireland for her.
The reception took place at The Stockroom At 230, the decor was simple and purposefully understated. Lisa and Nicholas are both very old souls so they wanted the space to feel very warm and homey. They incorporated their love for old books and coffee in the décor and included lots of candles, vintage coffee canisters and clocks to give a feel of old Ireland. They also created personalized bookmarks to use as their ceremony programs and offered a coffee bar favor station with personalized coffee bags so guests could take their favorite beans home with them (which of course included an Irish Crème blend!). Lisa and Nicholas’ entire day was full of everything they love which truly made the day so personal, special, and truly them.
Congratulations to the new Mr. & Mrs. Hines!
