Patriotic styled shoot with a Southern elegance and classic red, white and blue color palette at HollyOaks on the Marsh in Savannah, Georgia
On a sweet summer day in the Lowcountry, wedding creatives joined forces for a patriotic styled shoot at one of Savannah’s hidden gems: HollyOaks. The central theme quickly presented itself as a summer wedding celebrating our country.
“We have a storied past, for sure,” said the photographer. “Not all of it is beautiful but the dream, upon which America was founded, remains.”
With that in mind, this team decided to rejoice in what unifies us by celebrating the beautiful blending of colors, cultures and creativity.
“We combined our efforts to create an elegant, lively, red-white-and-blue themed editorial shoot,” said the photographer.
All of the details throughout the styled shoot were elegant and classic, beginning with the invitation suite. It was a layout of traditional bone-white cardstock with simple lettering and beautiful watercolor imagery of the wedding venue.
For the model’s bridal look, she wore a strapless ivory gown with a sweetheart neckline and layered tulle princess skirt. The thin embellished belt added a pop of glam, which looked gorgeous with her dainty crystal pendant and teardrop earrings. She completed the sophisticated look with a bold lip and loose waves, pinned half-up, half-down.
Her groom sported a three-piece navy suit with a white dress shirt and sleek brown leather loafers. He added red accents with a crimson bowtie and a boutonniere made from deep merlot and creamy white florals.
“When Aaron and Yensy were asked to model, the team had no idea that they had never had their own wedding!” said the photographer.
The shoot quickly became a surprise vow renewal honoring their years of marriage, and when Aaron and Yensy began reciting their heartfelt vows, a hush fell over the team and there were very few dry eyes in the audience!
“We could not have been happier for them to finally realize their dream of a wedding ceremony,” said the photographer.
The venue, HollyOaks, is a historic private estate featuring a magnificent manor home, exquisite heirloom gardens boasting azaleas and camellias, surrounding mossy live oaks and magnolia trees,
and a charming creek house cottage.
“Their perspective and philosophy are to join in an effort to revitalize the land, grow from the past, bring all people together, and radiate joy,” said the photographer. “This mission, combined with the desire to host bespoke weddings and events, made HollyOaks the ideal setting for the shoot.”
The team added their own floral wedding design to the abundance of on-site natural blooms, incorporating luscious mixed greenery, cream and deep merlot-colored roses, and white tulips, hydrangeas and lilies. Each flower in the ivory and green bridal bouquet popped against the vintage red VW bus that the couple posed in. It even featured a built-in photo booth!
For the focal point of the shoot, the team utilized the venue’s enchanting white pergola to set up the outdoor reception, showcasing a tablescape design ideal for a summer dinner party. A wooden farm table and cane back chairs presented an easy elegance while an off-white, wispy fabric runner and mismatched chinoiserie vases added a classy, beautiful touch.
“With simple guidelines, like timeless, Southern, and a little funky, the vendors were able to use their own unique talents and vision to elevate a lovely vision,” said the photographer.
The vases were overflowing with mixed greenery and cream and merlot-colored blooms, while each place setting was stacked with layered royal blue and white mismatched China, a cream linen napkin, gold flatware and crystal glassware. On top of each set of plates, the name card rested against a personal-sized, single-tiered buttercream cake.
“From the luxury florals and elegant chinoiserie, to the vintage furnishings and tiered cake, to the vintage convertible and VW Bus photo booth,” said the photographer, “there were surprises around every corner.”
For the final surprise, the couple snuck one last kiss before setting off down the mossy oak-lined driveway in a getaway car: a crimson red vintage convertible.
