Birds of a Feather, Fly Together

Dana + Raj | Nov 11, 2017

Co-workers Dana and Raj knew each other for years before their love interest every piqued but once they hung out, they were inseparable. Fast forward to New Year’s Eve, when Raj proposed to Dana as the ball was dropping because what better way to start off a new year then with a new fiancé!

For their wedding, these Steeler fans didn’t want a traditional stuffy wedding. Raj serves on the board at the Sylvan Heights Bird Park and it was the perfect place to exchange vows (it’s also where they had their first date!). Their black and gold color scheme (the colors of their favorite team) was complete with personalized Terrible Towels for the processional and a custom version of the Steelers' fight song as their exit song, which included their names and special messages for their guests.

In keeping with the black and gold theme, Dana’s bridesmaids wore black tulle dresses and carried yellow bouquets. Dana was dressed in a cream dress paired with a bouquet of her favorite flowers, yellow roses, accented with a black ostrich flower as a nod to their venue. She paired her look with Shaun Leane’s feather collection jewelry and a modern pair of laser cut grey heels. The groomsmen looked dapper in gray suits while Raj stood out in a handsome black tux. To personalize the ceremony even more, the couple surprised their guests with an owl ring bearer named Luna who flew from the back of the aisle and landed on Raj's arm with the rings.

For their reception, they showcased Raj’s Indian-American heritage by changing into traditional Indian wedding clothes. The décor was Bollywood-themed with bold colors including dark red, dark purple and hot pink. Bollywood music filled the air and guests feasted on Indian food. A vibrant, five-tiered cake that incorporated all the vibrant colors of the décor was the perfect sweet finish to the night. And don't miss the epic video from Carolina Story Film Company (below) which captures the day perfectly!

Dana’s advice to future brides?

“Thoroughly vet all of your vendors, especially their review, to avoid heartache and disappointment later. Make sure you communicate with them and cover all bases until you are happy. But don’t forget to enjoy the ride!”

Congratulations, Dana & Raj!
