Terell + Christopher | Sep 14, 2019
An elegant affair featuring black, white and gold and jeweled accents at the Embassy Suites Brier Creek in Raleigh, North Carolina
Terell and Christopher met at a movie premiere, and one could say the stars aligned. The couple embarked on their own love story from that first meeting, arriving at a romantic high point one November evening.
After a day of holiday shopping, Christopher invited Terell on a quiet boardwalk stroll. As they walked, Christopher shared his feelings with Terell, which included his desire to spend the rest of their lives together.
Through surprised and joyful tears, Terell watched as Christopher dropped to one knee and proposed. And in this climactic moment, Terell’s next line was, “Yes.”
As if a nod to the Hollywood production where they met, the couple decided on a glam theme for their wedding. A timeless white and black palette accented with metallics and jewels, creating an elegant scene for the guests who would attend their black-tie wedding event.
“Our desire was to have a classic, simplistic wedding that showcased our love for vintage or old glam,” said Terell. “It was a classic black and white color scheme with hints of gold.”
What They Wore
While getting ready on their wedding day, Terell and Christopher’s wedding party donned classic black tuxes and one attendant wore a black, off-the-shoulder floor-length gown with a sweetheart neckline and gold choker. White rose boutonnieres and a bouquet completed the looks.
Christopher also opted for a classic look – a classic shawl-collar tuxedo. Terell went a little more modern with a custom tuxedo. Terell’s white paisley-textured jacket with a wide velvet lapel created a unique, contrasting look to his groom’s. His red bottomed Louboutin loafers were the perfect final touch to finish his look.
It was a beautiful September day in Raleigh, which made for a perfect ceremony setting on an outdoor terrace. The venue’s natural stone and tile lent a neutral backdrop to the couple’s wedding colors.
A white aisle runner flanked by tulle swag and miniature bouquets of baby’s breath and pearl created an airy walkway for the wedding party. At the end of the aisle awaited a floral-lined arch with white drapery, as well as large arrangements of white roses and hydrangeas on either side.
As guests took their seats, they received a program on black card stock with gold lettering and an art deco-inspired design, and the ceremony began. The wedding party led the way down the aisle with Christopher to follow and ended with Terell. The ceremony began and included several personal touches, like a sand ceremony and personally written vows, which was one of the best parts of the entire day.
“Our best memory we agree, was Christopher’s reading of his wedding vows to me. It was beyond what was ever imagined,” recalled Terell. “I loved every part of the day but that stood out the most for both of us.”
After exchanging vows and rings—thick wedding bands with a dual inset of diamonds—the couple shared a poignant moment with their unity sand ceremony. The grooms poured containers of black and white sand into a heart-shaped vase to symbolize their blending of families and lifelong bond. After being presented as a married couple, Terell and Christopher led the recessional hand-in-hand and with beaming smiles.
As a literal crowning moment to their marriage rite, the couple donned gold crowns for their portraits. The gold hardware included glass crystals and a fleur-de-lis design, the latter a symbol of purity from antiquity. Feeling regal, the two kings headed to their reception to celebrate.
Glam-themed details carried over from the ceremony to the ballroom reception. White linens, up-lighting, florals and candles anchored the room, accompanied by gold Chiavari chairs. In the center of the room, overlooking the dance floor and the guest tables was a head table for the couple and wedding party.
The round guest tables were decorated with two different looks. Some tables had tall, oversized arrangements of greenery and white hydrangeas and roses surrounded by smaller tabletop arrangements, while others had small tabletop arrangements surrounding hurricane vases with floating candles. The head table was set similarly with a short arrangement and floating candles going the length of the rectangular table.
Guest picked up their place card and headed to their seat where they found a thank you note from the couple on white stock with gold lettering. There were also gold foil-wrapped candies encased in clear jewel shapes at their seats as a sweet favor for them to enjoy.
Even sweeter was the couple’s wedding cake, a four-tier cake on a gold, jeweled base. Its white frosting was gilded in leaf and other ornate designs, including the couple’s monogram. Two small gold crowns topped the elegant design, and candle votives around the base cast the cake in a warm light.
While the vow exchange and reception elements ranked high among the couple’s favorite moments, dancing the night away with family and friends was another.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
