A “Surprise” Set Up Turns into a Brewery Inspired Wedding

Meaghan Gay + Nick Iannoni | Jun 25, 2016

While spending the weekend in Boston visiting friends, Meaghan’s friend planned to meet up with another friend for a night out. Unbeknownst to her this other friend happened to bring Nick along, apparently convincing him after he was somewhat reluctant to go out that by telling him she thought the two of them would hit it off.

As their relationship grew, Meaghan realized she couldn’t imaging her life without him.

“While dating, our relationship grew into something so special because we both made it a priority,” said Meaghan. “As we continued dating, without necessarily realizing it, we began making decisions about our lives and future together. We experienced so many moments together during that time, I think we both realized that the other person was ‘the one’ because we couldn't imagine not going through these moments without the other person.”

Meaghan wasn’t very good at putting what she wanted for her Charlotte wedding day into words but overall wanted it to feel like a rustic Southern wedding with some elegant touches and some manly touches. Which is where the gorgeous Charlotte wedding venue Rural Hill came in! After hiring a wedding planner, they were able to come up with a clear cut plan for what the day would look and feel like.

“When we first started the design process, we chatted about things that were special to them as a couple and certain elements they were drawn to,” said their planner Mandi of Social 10 Events. “After our initial conversation, I quickly came to the conclusion that this wedding needed to include farm to table cuisine, organic florals and one thing they hold dear, craft beer.”

A palette of lavender and sage tones was decided on while pulling some non-traditional stems into their floral like kale and cabbage.

“Nick bought an orchid plant for me on Valentine’s Day one year, which we’ve managed to keep alive somehow, so we ensured that was included in his boutonniere and my bouquet,” said Meaghan. “We also use the scents of rosemary and lavender throughout our home so we incorporated those into our floras.”

Meaghan and Nick spent their engagement brewery hopping to collect growlers for the beer inspired centerpieces (not a bad job!).

Meaghan and Nick’s laid back personalities set the scene for the wedding day celebration which was perfectly captured by Samantha Laffoon Photography. While it was hard to pick a favorite moment for Meaghan, walking down the aisle and seeing her future husband is something at the top of the list that she will cherish forever.

“In that moment when we exchanged vows, I can’t put into words the happiness and love we felt for one another and from our surrounding friends and family,” said the bride.

Another favorite moment was their entrance:

“I also loved entering into our reception area when announced as husband and wife. Mandi, our planner, approached us right beforehand, asking if we wanted her to open the barn door (since it would go up like a garage door) after we were announced. We didn’t plan on this, but it was so unexpected, everyone was talking about it, and we have such great pictures from it (thanks Samantha!!).”

After their last song, their friends and family chanted “one more song!,” a true sign of a great party thanks to Carolina DJ Professionals.

Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Iannoni!
