Emily Ussery + Patrick Hogan | Dec 31, 2016
A shared love of Shakespeare and storytelling, Patrick and Emily wanted a wedding that was full of drama and glamour while making their guests feel like royalty. And that’s exactly what they got during this New Year’s Eve wedding at The Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge, exactly one year after Patrick asked Emily to marry him.
Patrick and Emily were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend:
“We went to this restaurant with her and her boyfriend. It was like a quad date. She is the sweetest funniest person I know and she said, ‘You will love him. He is so great.’ She was right.”
Emily waited to introduce Patrick to her daughter, who was only eighteen months at the time, until things were pretty serious.
“When they met and I saw them playing and having fun, I saw how he already loved her and how he was so comfortable and funny with her,” said Emily. “I knew he was the man I had prayed for.”
Patrick knew Emily was the one during a middle-of-the-night diaper run.
“Van Morrison’s ‘Tupelo Honey’ came on the radio and I knew then that I loved Emily and she was who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with,” he said.
Fast forward to their wedding day that combined Emily’s glamorous style with Patrick’s love of all things North Carolina and Carolina blue.
“I love flowers, so I wanted the florals and candlelight to be the star of the show,” said the bride. “With deep hues of blue and gold, topped with the ethereal feathers and ivory roses, it felt so elegant and romantic. Like an escape to another era or world. We loved that!”
Emily says their vendors were amazing and felt like their family.
“When Allison (our amazing planner) lead us into the ‘room reveal’ we literally both cried at how magnificent these artists were and how they brought our love story and dreams to life. Karen, Allison, Julie, Sabrina, and the entire vendor team made me feel like a princess that day. And for a young single mom, who was never sure if I would find true love, let alone have the wedding of my dreams; that means more than they will ever know.”
One of Emily’s favorite moments? “Walking down the aisle and seeing each other; it just can't be described. Tears of so much joy streamed down both our faces as our daughter looked on, and we truly became a family forever.”
That same song that played the day Patrick knew he wanted Emily to be his forever was sung by a dear friend during their first dance.
Their wedding day was complete with lots of champagne (including a tower!) and fireworks, with “Sweet Caroline” played during the finale.
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
