Alyssa Mercuri + Lucas Foster | May 13, 2016
Luke and Alyssa met in eighth grade but it wasn’t until freshman year that he got up enough nerve to ask her out. A giant Hershey’s bar was delivered to her front door with the words, “Alyssa will you go out with me?,” written on top. Talk about a sweet gesture (pun intended!).
“Luke was the cool country boy our small school and better yet, he had just gotten his license,” said Alyssa. “We became inseparable after that and quickly fell hard for each other. We both knew we wanted to get married but were still so young. We followed each other to UNCW and back home.”
After graduation, Luke surprised Alyssa with a trip to Charleston. He proposed on their hotel balcony overlooking the city skyline. After seven years together, Alyssa began planning her Charlotte wedding on her way home.
First things first, Alyssa knew she wanted her grandfather to marry them. He had married all of her aunts and uncles and, as the first set of grandchildren to get married, she wanted to continue that tradition.
According to their photographer:
“Her granddad is in his late 80s and had began to stutter his words. He didn’t want to mess up what thought was one of the most important services he performed in his life, so he asked a friend to stand by his side to say the long parts of the ceremony. He didn’t stutter one word and officiated the wedding perfectly, joining Alyssa to Luke, her first love.”
The gorgeous venue was set with church pews and a decorate arbor for their intimate wedding ceremony. Cocktail hour included oversized lawn games and corn hole while inside was set up beautifully using their color scheme of lavender, plum and ivory. The baby’s breath and khaki accents were perfect inside the rustic venue. Not to mention the beautiful textured cake, delicious catering from Union Street Bistro, and signature cocktails including Alyssa’s “Lady Lavender” (pineapple juice, grape juice, ginger ale and rum) and Luke’s “The Woodsman” (spiced rum and Coke).
After searching through hundreds of vendors (Hey, if you're saying YES!! This is me! Sign up now by clicking here! We make that process easy by matching you to the top vendors for you.), Alyssa came across the vendors for her Charlotte wedding:
“The staff and day-of coordinator at The Arbors were great and took all of the stress away from me on my wedding day! The venue’s beauty was greatly enhanced by Willow Branch Flowers. Our delicious cake by Sweet Thing Bakery and all of the other wonderful things were captured by Thirteenth Moon Photography. I am blown away by their talent to capture perfect pictures right in the moment and to use the sunlight to crate amazing results.”
