Classic in Maroon

Christa + Thomas | Nov 4, 2017

Classic and simple wedding with a traditional church ceremony and a maroon fall color palette at Larkin’s on the River in Greenville, South Carolina

Thomas and Christa’s love story started many years ago when Thomas was a senior in high school and Christa was a junior. So, when they finally tied the knot several years later, it was long overdue.
It was a perfect November day when the couple tied the knot. They planned a classically styled wedding and it could not have been more beautiful. The maroon color palette was perfect for the fall and popped in the both the reception florals and the bridesmaid’s dresses.
The day started early as Christa and her bridesmaids all got their hair and makeup done. The bride had her hair pulled back in an intricate braided and curled ‘do, and went with a smoky eye and dark lipstick color to match her maroon color scheme.
When it came time to get dressed, Christa’s mom helped her into her flowery and lace A-line gown. The flower designed straps led into a sheer buttoned back.
“Christa’s mother struggled not to cry as she buttoned Christa up,” recalled the photographer, Sara Touchet Photography. “Seeing your baby girl in her wedding dress just a couple of hours before you give her away is very emotional moment for many.”
Christa secured her veil and headed to the most beautiful church. While she was on her way, the final few guests took their seats in the ornate wooden pews.
Once everyone was seated, Thomas and his groomsmen took their spots at the altar. The groom stood out from his traditionally dressed black suited groomsmen. He wore a light grey suit with a maroon vest and bow tie that matched the color of the bridesmaid’s dresses.
The cutest flower girl and ring bearer made their way down the aisle just before Christa and her dad appeared in the doorway. When Thomas saw his almost wife for the first time that day, it was everything.
Before they knew it, the couple was sharing their first kiss as husband and wife and walking back down the aisle, this time together as a married couple.
While the newlyweds and their bridal party stuck around for some pictureson the church’s amazing front steps, the guests all headed over to the reception.
The reception space had wooden floors and exposed wooden ceilings, but it was lightened up by natural light and the market lights strung around the room gave it a romantic feel.
Round guest tables were set with a white linen and wooden crossback chairs. In the center of each table was a gold vase filled with the sweetest arrangements of maroon and blush colored florals. A trio of gold votive candles surrounded the arrangement. There were also edible favors waiting for guests at their seats.
Across the room there was a simple yet beautiful three tiered cake decorated with maroon florals and a Mr. and Mrs. cursive cake topped. The cake had a horizontal textured icing and a dotted design separating each tier.
Once everyone had taken their seats, the bride and groom entered the room and headed straight to the dance floor to share their first dance together.
“Thomas and Christa’s first dance was so sweet,” remembered the photographer. “It was like they forgot every other person was in the room.”
After their dance ended, they each shared a dance with the other special people in their life. For Christa that meant her dad and her grandfather, and for Thomas that mean an emotional, yet sweet dance with his grandmother who had raised him. Talk about a moment that really tugs on your heart strings.
When all the formal dances came to an end, the couple took their seats at their sweetheart table and the buffet opened. The food was enjoyed, including the cake and the entire dessert display of mini sweets that we are currently drooling over.
The dance floor opened back up and the party really got started. Everyone danced the night away and only took a break when it came time for the bouquet toss and garter removal. After, the dance floor immediately filled back up and stayed that way until the very last moment.
Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs.!
