Burgundy, silver and white rustic wedding with an elegant touch at The Venue in Asheville, North Carolina
Megan and Tom are another dating app success story! The two met on Hinge while Tom was actually working in Malaysia. After a month of casual small talk, Tom came back to the U.S. and the couple went on their first official date. Since Tom travels a lot for work, it wasn’t until three months later that they went back out on their second date. Finally, a year of work travel and casual dating later, the two officially started their relationship.
Two years later, over Labor Day weekend, the couple took a trip to visit Megan’s parents for the weekend. She didn’t think anything of it that her whole family, siblings included, just happened to be visiting her parents, as well. Everyone headed out for an afternoon hike. When they got to the top of the mountain, Tom led the group toward a secluded clearing off the path. What Megan didn’t notice was the rest of the family retreating back to the path. Suddenly, Tom was down on one knee.
Just over a year later, their rustic and elegant wedding day was here.
“Our venue was already rustic and gorgeous, so we wanted to enhance the space'sbeauty and went for a rustic, elegant vibe,” explained Megan. “The number one priority was celebrating with our family and friends so everything else was meant to enhance that.”
The bride spent her morning getting primped and pampered with her bridesmaids. After the glam team wrapped up, it was time for Megan to get into her dress. The gown was a silk A-line gown with a modest V-neck and similar shaped back. The full train and button detailing down the back really made it something special.
“I went into wedding dress shopping thinking that I'd get something a little more form fitting and lace but what I came out with was a silk full A-line with a longer train, buttons, a plunging neckline, and pockets,” the bride said. “At the store when I stepped out in this dress my mom and sisters started bawling, so I knew it was the one, I couldn't take the dress off, and I felt like a bride!”
The cathedral length ivory veil was the perfect touch to complete her simple, yet oh so elegant bridal look. As she added the finishing touches to her look, like her grandmother’s pearl necklace wrapped around her wrist like a bracelet, Tom waited for her in the hotel’s lobby.
Tom stood in the lobby in his grey colored three piece suit and burgundy tie. Megan tapped him on the shoulder and as he turned around the look in his eyes said it all. The first look was a special moment for the couple, and we can see why.
After the private moment, the group was joined by the burgundy gown wearing bridesmaids and grey suit wearing groomsmen for some bridal party pictures. The white and greenery in the bridesmaid’s bouquets and boutonnieres balanced out the darkness of the burgundy and grey.
Inside, while the group wrapped up pictures, the guests started taking their seats at the ceremony. The aisles were lined with silver mercury candle holders and silver vases full of textured greenery and white flowers to match the bridesmaid’s bouquets. At the front of the altar was a rustic table lined with silver candelabras and candlesticks, more greenery and white flowers, and more silver mercury vases filled with candles.
As the groomsmen and bridesmaids took their spots at the front, the ceremony got underway. It was a very sentimental ceremony designed by the couple. They read traditional vows but incorporated an untraditional reading that served as their “something borrowed” since the same poem was read at Tom’s cousin’s wedding. They also incorporated a unity ceremony, a parent flower presentation, exchanged wine using the bride’s grandparents’ champagne flutes and enacted a Love Letter Box.
“We put our first letters in the box during the ceremony that we'll open on our first anniversary and place two new letters in the box toopen the following year,” explained the bride. “This is one of the most special parts of the ceremony to us apart from saying ‘I do!’”
When it was all over, they shared their first kiss as husband and wife and were officially ready to celebrate!
In the reception space, the couple’s dream of rustic elegance was brought to light. The venue’s exposed wooden beams in the ceiling and brick walls mixed with the crystal accented chandeliers were the perfect backdrop to start with. When they were mixed with the white square guest tables set with wooden oval crossback chairs and the greenery and silver mercury pieces, it was perfection.
The bride’s mom had created wooden spheres that were wrapped with greenery and hung from the ceiling and they could not have looked any better in that space. The uplighting against the walls really set the ambiance and all the candlelight provided the perfect glow in the room.
After all the guests took their seats, Megan and Tom made their grand entrance and joined together for their first dance full of dips and twists and turns. Once they took their seats, the dinner stations opened and that was just another way the couple put their touch on the day. They selected different stations that had a southern flare to them to give guests a taste of their new state of North Carolina.
Once everyone enjoyed dinner, the couple headed over to their dessert table to cut their cake. They had just a small, semi-naked single tiered cake for the ceremonial cut and opted for an amazing looking dessert display. Guests could choose from cookies, brownies, blondies or one of the other many little treats from the table.
At that point, the dance floor opened, and the couple enjoyed dancing the night away. They even had a special last dance, just the two of them.
“We also had one final dance just the two of us while our guests were lining up for the sparkler exit,” Megan said. “Itwas our chance to soak in the last moments of the day before running out the door and starting our lives as The Baileys!”
The song ended and the couple headed outside where light sparkled down the sidewalk thanks to their family and friends.
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
