Whimsical waterfront wedding with a purple and lavender color palette at a private residence in Lake Norman, North Carolina
Nikki and Zach first met the day they both moved into college. It wasn’t until a couple months later when Zach’s best man re-introduced them that they actually started hanging out. At first, they would see each other in group settings and eventually moved into spending time just the two of them. The rest was history.
While on a trip in Colorado just the two of them, Zach popped the question. They were sitting on the porch in the middle of a snow storm and it couldn’t have been more romantic or “them.”
The couple planned their whimsical, pastel early summer wedding right on a lake. It was the complete opposite setting as their engagement, but just as romantic and just as “them.” They took any opportunity they saw to personalize the day and it made it that much more special.
“Our wedding was a whimsical lakeside wedding with pastel florals,” said the bride. “We accented things that made us a couple, like water sports and our dog, in every way we could.”
Right on the water’s edge, the picturesque ceremony was set. The wooden crossback chairs lined the grass and right where the grass ended and the sandy lake access began there was a wooden arbor decorated with clusters of lush florals and greenery. The lavender and purple florals added the right pop of color to the serene backdrop.
Once the chairs were filled with guests the live musician began to play just as jet skis began to pull ashore and the groomsmen took their spots. Yes, groomsmen in dark grey three piece suits and lavender bowties on jet skis. But that’s not all, then a boat appeared with all the bridesmaids in full on wedding attire. Beautiful full length dresses in different shades of lavender and purple wedding attire. Talk about making an entrance!
Then, one of the most important wedding guests made his way down the aisle before Nikki. The couple’s ring bearer – their dog and a major inspiration for some pieces of the wedding – was walked down the aisle, greenery and floral decorated leash and all!
In her Hayley Paige princess style ballgown, Nikki made her way down the aisle next. She had always hoped to wear a dress by the designer, and it was her luck that the dress she fell in love with was one of her designs.
The dress had a bejeweled bodice with dainty straps, a V-neckline and a full tulle skirt to finish it off. Her loosely braided hairstyle was accented with a bejeweled hair piece that tied with a ribbon, giving her look a totally whimsical vibe.
As Zach stood there, he heard a special song start to play that Nikki surprised him with. Between the song and seeing one another for the first time, there wasn’t a better moment.
“My favorite part was seeing Zach,” told Nikki. “You get all these feelings the day of your wedding and when I saw Zach, all I could think of is how much I love him and how he’s my best friend.”
When Nikki reached Zach, the couple locked eyes and in the blink of an eye were officially husband and wife.
After the ceremony, guests lined up at the mobile bar trailer where they could not only get a drink but also a koozie with an illustration of the couple’s dog – of course! While guests enjoyed a cocktail and the view of the lake, so did the couple.
Nikki and Zach walked along the lake and thanks to Amanda Moss Photography got some of the most romantic looking newlywed photos. The couple walked along the sandy lakefront, sat on the grand feeling stone steps of the house and, of course, snapped a few shots with their very special ring bearer.
Meanwhile, guests were invited to find their place on the seating chart Nikki made herself and head into the open-air tent for the reception. The tent was lined with market lights and wrapped with ivory draping to keep things light and airy.
A mixture of round tables with white linens and rectangular wooden farm tables surrounded the wooden dance floor. Hanging in the center of the tent, above the dance floor, was the show stopper – a large floral chandelier.
The round tables were all set with a lavender and purple filled floral arrangement while the farm tables were set with a greenery garland that had different shaped and sized candles, including some lavender candlesticks that we are in love with.
Each place setting was set with a simple white dinner plate that was topped with a knotted lavender napkin adding a pop of color to the entire room. The acrylic table number with a wooden stand was the cherry on top of the cake to the tablescape.
Nikki and Zach made their way into the reception and right beneath the greenery chandelier, shared their first dance as husband and wife. After that, Nikki and her dad stole the show with a father-daughter dance for the books!
“Guests were anticipating my dad and I’s dance, as we both love to dance,” said the bride. “The dance started slow which was special, but we broke out to ‘Uptown Funk’ in a coordinated dance, which was so much fun.”
From then on out, the dance floor was packed the rest of the night, with the exception of dessert time.
There was a full dessert table, including a three tiered cake set up on a wooden farm table just outside the tent. Naturally, the cake topper was a figurine of the couple’s dog for one final nod to their beloved pooch.
The lavender filled day came to an end with a lavender sunset and it was as if they painted the sky the exact color themselves! When the sky turned dark, guests lit it back up with sparklers as the bride and groom made their grand exit.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
