Audrionna “Onna” Elswick + Jonathon “Jon” Leonard | Jan 20, 2018
A girl’s night and guy’s night turned into the start of a beautiful relationship for Onna and Jon! They happened to be at the same spot and ended up hanging out. Onna didn’t give Jon the time of day for a few months but he persisted and she finally gave in and let him take her out on a date. They hit it off and started dating and one of their traditions became to go to The Dixie Classic, an annual fair held in Winston-Salem. Jon knew that the fair would be the perfect place to propose and suggested that they take a ride on the ferris wheel to take in the sights. His plan was to propose on the ride but it just didn’t feel right to do it there crammed in which two strangers. He waited until they got off the ride and, while taking pictures, he got down on one knee in front of the ferris wheel and asked Onna to marry him! Now, every time they see a ferris wheel, they take a picture together!
For their wedding, Onna and Jon knew they wanted their venue to be different than the traditional options. Since it was a winter wedding, they knew it had to be an indoor venue and they fell in love with The Lofts at Union Square, an urban-chic venue in the heart of downtown High Point. They loved that it was modern and industrial yet still had rustic elements and Yasmin Leonard Photography truly captured the look they envisioned. They chose colors that they personally liked, light gray and blush, while keeping green and brown elements to bring out the rustic details of the venue. The florals were rustic but elegant with a combination of greenery, roses, carnations and hydrangeas.
Onna and Jon wanted to add personal details to their day so they incorporated DIY décor such as handmade wooden doors from a family farm and gave guests homemade blackberry jam from berries picked from their land. They also wanted to take a personal moment for themselves so, although hesitant to at first, they decided to do a first look and they were so glad they did! “As I walked up behind him I had never been more anxious and excited in my life!,” Onna said. “The look on his face was priceless and something I will never forget… by far my favorite part of the whole day!”
And how could Jon not be speechless when he saw her? Onna’s mermaid dress with antique lace and buttons down the back were perfection. She paired the dress with gray Vans and Jon embellished it by gifting her pearls with 143 engraved on the back (symbolizing “I love you”).
Congratulations, Onna and Jon!
