Modern Elegance in a Mansion

Jan 10, 2019

Sophisticated and elegant with a modern spin and jewel tones of crimson, wine and gold at the timeless Duke Mansion in Charlotte, North Carolina

What do you get when you mix an elegant and timeless mansion that has black and white tile floors, and white columns outside with vibrant jewel tones, rich velvets and modern accents? Something that gives us all the feels.

This styled shoot is dripping with romance and sophistication thanks to its colors and textures. Not to mention the flowers and décor that add so much life.

“Our vision was to embody a timeless romantic feel along with modern accents by layering in rich velvets with light and airy watercolors,” said the photographer. “We chose shades of wine with touches of warm ambers to blend with our vibrant jewel tones.”

The invitation suite really set the tone for this styled shoot. The wine colored velvet ribbon and gold seal that wrapped the invitation screamed elegance while the gold lining and text on the envelope added that modern touch. The script font and flowing watercolor design on the invitation itself brought romance to the look.

Even the bride and groom helped bring the feeling of romance to this shoot. The bride with her auburn colored hair that was pulled back in a classic low bun and her bright red lipstick made things feel even more elegant. And the dress was simply amazing. The A-line gown had an illusion neckline with Chantilly lace, beaded accenting and a full satin skirt. The whole look was finished off with just the right amount of sparkle in her oversized diamond stud earrings.

The groom put a modern spin on his classic suit by wearing a three-piece, fitted suit in a light navy blue. The pop of color in his tie pulled the whole look together.

The couple met and instantly the two looks merged together flawlessly. Especially with the bride’s bouquet that had pops of red that drew out her lipstick and pops of pink to match the groom’s tie.

Outside there was a ceremony space set up on the back patio. There was an overhang supported by two white columns in front of the double window paned doors draped in flowers and the most amazing deep red velvet fabric. On the side with draping velvet there was one cluster of flowers and on the other side, two.

“Crimson peonies were the focal flower for that elegant look and a rich block of color, and accenting roses for their beauty, color and textures, too,” said the florist. “I love texture, so typically I like working with a variety of bloom sizes and shades and a mix of greenery and wanted to bring that into the designs.”

Inside, there was a guest table and a sweetheart table set up and each one wowed just as much as the other. Belle Ame Events set the rectangular guest table with a textured wine colored linen with matching wine colored vintage chairs. In the center of the table was a breathtaking arrangement with coordinating flowers from the ceremony. Surrounding the flowers were vintage gold candlestick holders.

At each place setting was a textured acrylic gold rimmed charger topped with a scalloped white dinner and salad plate. On top of the plates was a knotted gold satin napkin and a vintage inspired place card. The card had rough edges with a watercolor print on it and a wine colored velvet string dangling off. The gold silverware rounded out the whole elegant, yet modern feel.

The sweetheart table was a vintage farm table with a wooden top and dark legs. A wine velvet runner ran down the middle and onto the floor on each side. It was similarly set to the guest table with a big lush floral arrangement, vintage gold candlestick holder and the same charger and plate setting. The velvet gold vintage chairs are what really made the statement at this table.

Just across from the sweetheart table there was a gold mirrored top bar cart. There were brightly colored cocktails on top that matched the floral arrangement on the bottom level. And a three tiered cake set on top with a modern, hexagonal shaped bottom tier that was wine and gold watercolor and accented with a flower cluster. The top two layers were white with a slight gold marble and a marble ribbon at the bottom of each tier. It was all topped with one big flower cluster.

The whole shoot flowed perfectly with all the colors working together, from the color of the cocktails to the color of the furniture, and even the mixing of the timeless accents like the black and white marble floors to the modern pieces like the bar cart.
