Maria + Eric | Dec 15, 2018
Dark red, green and white Christmas colored wedding with an elegant and moody style at Traine in Raleigh, North Carolina
Maria and Eric met like many do nowadays – through Bumble. It was a match made in heaven full of love and laughs. When Eric decided it was time to pop the question, he knew their upcoming trip would be the perfect time. However, once Eric had the ring, he just couldn’t contain his excitement, and ended up proposing a little early!
After the engagement excitement settled down, the two got down to business to start planning their dream wedding! They decided they wanted to have a winter wedding and since the date they chose ended up being right before Christmas, they decided to really have some fun with the winter Christmas theme.
When deciding between all white everything and dark, moody colors, Maria left the decision up to the venue. When she saw Traine’s beautiful exposed brick white walls, she knew she wanted to add some contrast with dark reds and greens. Everything throughout the day came together perfectly to create a romantic wedding winter wonderland.
The day began as Maria and her girls all sat around in their matching monogrammed robes getting their hair and makeup done. Maria had her long locks pulled half back off her face but fell loosely down her back. She even channeled the moody color scheme into her makeup with a smoky eye and dark, bold lip color.
When she put on her dress, everyone around her was speechless. It was a sheath style, strappy lace gown that looked like it was made for her.
“I went with a sheath style dress that was totally not meant for winter, but it was the dress that I loved so it was the dress that I picked!” said the bride.
It may not have been meant for winter but when she paired it with her fur stole and red suede shoes it transformed into the most perfect winter look.
Maria grabbed her dark red and greenery filled bouquet and headed outside to see Eric for the first time. Eric stood in the opposite direction in his all black attire. It was perfect for the moody winter theme. Even though you couldn’t see them, his cat socks, along with his white boutonniere added the right amount of fun to his look.
Eric turned around to see Maria and, in that moment, there wasn’t anything sweeter. Three Region Photography captured the love and emotion of that first look so perfectly.
After the couple had some time alone, they were joined by their bridal party for some pictures before the ceremony. The whole group’s look came together between the bridesmaid’s dark teal dresses and ivory bouquets with trailing ribbon and the groomsmen’s classic black suits. It was winter elegance at its finest.
The ceremony space was set with dark wood Chiavari chairs and the aisle was lined with lanterns and glass vases filled with pillar candles and loose greenery. The altar was defined by a white flocked Christmas tree surrounded by candlelight and loose white petals. It was romantic beyond belief.
Guests took their seats just before the bridal party made their way down the aisle. Maria made her way through the draped entrance and everyone rose to their feet.
As the couple exchanged rings, they also exchanged vows. They weren’t the typical vows, Maria and Eric had actually written their own vows and it was one of their favorite things about the wedding.
“That was one of the most anticipated moments of the day,” said Maria. “We wrote our own, and they ended up going very well and we got a lot of laughs!”
Once the ceremony ended, guests retreated behind the drapery into the reception space. The room was glowing with candlelight and the red tablecloths were a nice contrast to the dark wood floors and white brick walls. Each guest table was set with an assortment of bud vases with white blooms, greenery and candlelight. There was a mirrored table number for a touch of elegance. Each place setting had a white dinner plate sitting on top of a white napkin to brighten the table.
The sweetheart table was set with a sequined designed red linen and topped with bud vases and white flowers, geometric candleholders and two glass enclosed taper candlesticks. Talk about romantic!
Across the room was a matching sequined linen for the cake table. The single tiered, all white cake was surrounded by greenery, more bud vases and tons of candlelight. After the cake was cut, other miniature desserts joined the cake, including red and green Christmas themed macaroons!
The couple laughed and danced their way through the rest of the night and even led a conga line! When it was time to say farewell, all of their friends and family lined the exit and blew bubbles as the couple walked by.
