Museum of Life + Science Butterfly House Wedding

Xiaoxing Cui + Robert Qi | Apr 30, 2017

Xiaoxing and Robert met through mutual friends at a house party in October 2013. Both were students at Duke University so it was only fitting that their first official date be at a Duke basketball game! The couple’s relationship flourished over shared values and family goals, and in March 2016 Robert asked Xiaoxing if she would like to build a family with him. Of course, she said “yes!”

Xiaoxing and Robert had a gorgeous April wedding outside of the butterfly house at the Museum of Life and Science captured perfectly by Morgan Henderson Photography. The couple grew up on opposite sides of the earth (he in Wisconsin, she in Beijing) so they wanted to blend in elements from both American and Chinese culture. Xiaoxing wore a white dress for the ceremony and changed into a traditional Chinese red dress for the reception.

The couple chose a color palette of green and ivory. Xiaoxing incorporated pink peonies, the national flower of China, into her bridal bouquet and chose orchids, which symbolize the blessing of "happiness flying toward you" in China, for the centerpieces.

One of the most memorable parts of Xiaoxing’s and Robert’s wedding was the releasing of butterflies right before their ceremony. It was a blissful moment for the two to be surrounded by butterflies and their friends and family as they said their vows. Their day was perfect and one that they will never forget!

Congratulations to the newlyweds!
