“Great Gatsby” styled shoot with an Old Hollywood vibe and glamorous attire at The Millennium Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
As 2020 rolled in, an event planner and photographer teamed up to create a styled shoot with a 1920's Old Hollywood vibe. Once they found the idyllic, historic venue, they collaborated with a dream team of vendors to pull off their vision of pure glamour, with a fresh and modern twist.
“This styled shoot boasts a full wedding party who would make even Cary Grant and Dorothy Dandridge jealous!” said the photographer.
To kick off the lavish wedding, the invitation suite exuded glamour and Gatsby-esque sophistication, showcasing charcoal and metallic gold tones paired with handwritten calligraphy.
For her bridal look, the model stole the show in a diamond white, A-line gown with a wispy tulle skirt, bodice featuring beaded embroidery and a plunging neckline. Her statement earrings and hairpin dazzled with sparkling crystals. She topped off the look with a bold red lip.
Her bridesmaids looked chic in mismatched black gowns with sleek, classic curls and vintage feather fans to replace traditional wedding bouquets. The bridal bouquet was an equally unique arrangement of cream silk flowers that looked like roses, mixed with crystal embellishments.
The groom and his groomsmen sported three-piece black and white tuxedos with boutonnieres made of white roses, and a special white dinner jacket for the groom. They looked effortlessly dapper as they lounged in the venue’s bar, smoking artisan hand-rolled cigars in style.
“For an added ‘wow’ factor, the shoot also included a hand-rolled cigar station and a strolling champagne serving skirt for reception guests,” said the photographer.
Wearing a champagne serving skirt, a swanky server dazzled in a black and gold beaded 1920’s flapper dress, with a feathered headdress. She fit perfectly inside the venue’s historic charm, which over the years has attracted celebrities and also served as a location for several Hollywood films.
“The venue has a unique vintage elegance that fit the shoot's Roaring 20's and Great Gatsby glam feel to a T,” said the photographer.
At the lavishly decorated sweetheart table, an art-deco inspired tablescape took center stage on a gold textured linen. The bride and groom sat in regal, ivory and gold tufted armchairs, and the centerpiece popped with floating candlelight and massive white hydrangeas. Each place setting was complete with an elegant set of plates, gold flatware and metallic gold napkins.
The guests’ tables were lined with gold chameleon chairs and decorated with mismatched ivory and gold solid and patterned table linens. There were oversized arrangements of hydrangeas in gold vases, surrounded by abundant candlelight and varied place settings combining black and gold accents.
Wicked Sweet Cakes designed a decadent, gilded wedding cake with four tiers. Its delicate gold leaf and edible floral garnishes cascaded down the side. It was displayed on a dazzling black sequined tablecloth, next to towering glass candle holders and gold dipped champagne flutes.
After the cake-cutting, the bride and groom posed with a vintage Rolls Royce getaway car, in true Gatsby fashion. To complete the day, the photographer captured the couple during a romantic rooftop portrait session, just as the sun set behind them in soft watercolors.
