Pink Paradise

Katlynn + Haskell | Jul 25, 2020

Beach wedding followed by a modern reception with tropical florals and a pink color palette at 5eleven Palafox in Pensacola, Florida

Katlynn and Haskell had both just gotten out of six-year relationships when they connected with one another on a dating app. They met a week after talking, started dating a month after they met, and Katlynn knew from that first day that he was the one.

“On our annual trip to Pensacola, he planned the perfect proposal on the beach in front of the boardwalk where all my family was hiding,” said Katlynn. “It was PERFECT!”

Before they even got engaged, Katlynn knew that every inch of their wedding would be pink. At a raw, historic event venue in the heart of downtown Pensacola - Katlynn’s home away from home - they turned the space into a modern, tropical paradise.

“I have my own wedding and event planning company,” said Katlynn, “and I wanted something bright and unique to set my wedding aside from everyone else.”

An intimate hideaway, the bridal loft was the perfect space for Katlynn and her ladies to get dolled up. It exuded industrial elegance with cool textured concrete walls and windows spilling with natural light, decorated in pale rose tints, powdery pastels and gilded metallics. In mismatched pink gowns, the bridesmaids waited with their backs turned for the big reveal.

“I told the girls to find any shade and style of a pink dress that they felt comfortable in,” said Katlynn, “and they helped bring out my colors beautifully!”

When they turned to look at Katlynn in her gown, they were overcome with emotion. She looked truly remarkable in a diamond white ball gown with a full tulle skirt, lace bodice and dramatic deep V neckline. To make it even more special, the dress held real sentimental value.

“Since I was little, my maid of honor and I would put on my mom's dress and I swore I would wear it on my wedding day,” said Katlynn. “So, once the time came, I took my mom’s dress to an alterations fit like a glove and I made a few changes to fit my style!”

She also wore her mom's embellished headpiece in her mermaid-like updo, paired with a gorgeous cathedral veil. All of her jewelry sparkled with rose gold and diamonds, and she incorporated the color palette with a pair of fuchsia satin block heels and a bold pink lip.

While the ladies posed in the courtyard, in front of an ivy-clad wall and beneath enchanting market lights, Haskell and his groomsmen took to the sand for group photos. He wore a dapper maroon suit with a white dress shirt, a blush pocket square and blush, pineapple-print socks. The rest of the guys complemented him in gray suits and mismatched, playful-patterned socks.

They held the ceremony on the beach, with the sound of softly rolling waves in the backdrop. The plush white sand allowed the vibrant shades of green and pink in the florals to pop, beginning with the two large white columns at the start of the aisle, overflowing with large tropical leaves, bright pink ginger and flamingo flowers.

“My florals were 110% the most important factor in my wedding,” said Katlynn. “I wanted to make sure the florals were the first thing everyone noticed.”

There were two more large floral arrangements on the ground at the altar, and a large arrangement at Haskell’s late grandparents' seats - with a gold framed photo of each of them.

“We also made fan programs with names of everyone walking down the aisle and a timeline for the evening,” said Katlynn.

As she walked down the aisle, Katlynn carried a vivacious bridal bouquet full of lush green palm fronds and an array of tropical pink blooms including roses, peonies and flamingo flowers. Emotions ran high as she laid eyes on her soon-to-be husband, and through heavy mist, they exchanged vows that they’d written for one another.

“We did an intimate prayer where we invited both parents up to quietly pray with us,” said Katlynn. “To have that moment with the six of us was incredible.”

While the new Mr. and Mrs. soaked in the sea air during an intimate portrait session, the reception space was transformed into a tropical oasis. Inside the venue, the raw space boasted high ceilings, historic brick walls, large windows and a neutral color palette that provided the idyllic blank canvas for Katlynn’s vision.

“The pink is totally me,” said Katlynn. “When guests walked in and saw all pink, I think they all said, ‘Katlynn planned this wedding.’”

She and Haskell made their grand entrance, which included a special outfit change. Katlynn shook her hair down and twirled to their first dance in a flowy, sequined white gown. Her bridesmaids joined her after for a choreographed dance with their leading lady!

The tables were set with pink velvet linens and bamboo Chiavari chairs, topped with massive tropical leaf centerpieces that caught the eye. Each place setting featured a bright pink napkin, a monstera leaf and a seashell inscribed with each guest’s name on it.

There was a charcuterie-style table serving a mouthwatering seafood medley of crab claws, oysters, crab cakes, grouper, salmon, cheeses and breads, and for a savory surprise, they even had a unique popcorn bar!

“My husband has been obsessed with popcorn since he was a kid,” said Katlynn, “so I surprised him with a full popcorn buffet!”

The evening was full of heartwarming toasts, sips of bubbly and more than one wedding cake. On the table, they displayed a hexagonal three-tiered cake, a two-tiered pink cake and a petite white cake with a massive palm garnish. An array of pink and yellow macarons was also up for grabs, displayed on a modern acrylic tray.

Between dances and before their grand sparkler send-off, the newlyweds and their loved ones captured lifelong memories in the photo booth, complete with a neon pink sign reading, “til death do us party” and plenty of props.

“I had my heart set on that neon sign for a year,” said Katlynn. “It was the best addition.”

We wish the new Mr. and Mrs. a lifetime of happiness!
