Regal with Red and Roses

Ashley + Cliff | Oct 14, 2017

A classy and glamorous red and gold regal wedding at the Grand Marquise Ballroom near Raleigh, North Carolina

Ashley and Cliff’s love story is one for the books. It wasn’t all sparks and red roses at first, in fact it took well over a year for them to even have their first date. Not for lack of trying though.

The couple first met while both in graduate and master’s programs and working in the same program on campus at North Carolina State. As the story goes, nothing actually came of them working together. It wasn’t until after Ashley graduated that the couple exchanged numbers and started texting every now and then, despite Ashley’s lack of responding. Eventually, they made plans to get together over the winter, but Mother Nature had other plans. Cliff texted Ashley to check in but never heard back and they never got together.

The saga continued a couple months later when it was summertime again. They weren’t exactly sure what changed but Ashley texted Cliff to congratulate him on a new job… and they haven’t stopped talking since.

When the time came for a proposal, Cliff knew he wanted to give Ashley the surprise of a lifetime. One of Ashley’s friends had asked her to have a “girl’s” day to destress from her upcoming wedding. They got their hair and nails done and then Ashley was dragged along to “scope out” an engagement shoot location with her friend and fiancé. While on location, Ashley’s friend and fiancé disappeared. That’s when Ashley spotted Cliff turning the corner with a bouquet of red roses.

After popping the question, Cliff told Ashley that he had a hotel room reserved with a private dinner waiting for them. When they got to the room, all their friends and family were waiting to celebrate with them.

Ashley and Cliff were set to wed in October in the classiest of classy weddings. From the regal feeling venue to the deep red jacket of the groom and everything in between, it is giving us some serious feels.

The day started as Ashley and her girls got pampered and primped. The girls all wore matching pink monogrammed button down shirts that Ashley gifted them. She chose pink in honor of breast cancer awareness month and to honor the life of a friend who had passed away earlier in the year.

When the time came, the girls all changed out of their shirts and into the most glamorous gold sequin dresses. Ashley got dressed in the most stunning fitted lace gown with a trailing train.

“As soon as I tried on the dress I immediately fell in love,” Ashley said. “The details were so intricate, from the beading to the buttons on the back – it was truly love at first sight.”

Ashley finished off the look with teardrop earrings, gold stiletto Jimmy Choos and a bangle. She carried a cascading bouquet of white florals with a hint of ivy to commemorate Ashley’s membership in her sorority. Her bouquet was extra special wrapped in a piece of lace from Ashley’s grandmother’s favorite hat.

The ceremony looked as elegant and romantic as it possibly could have. The gold Chiavari chairs faced the grand staircase, which was lined with candlelight. The aisle leading up to the grand staircase had three oversized tall floral arrangements on each side. The arrangements were made of up white hydrangeas and red roses and stood on a tall clear vase, which sat on a tall mirrored box. Combined with the multiple oversized chandeliers in the room, it was stunning.

Ashley made her way down the red rose petal lined aisle and met her groom at the bottom of the stairs. Cliff was wearing the most amazing looking suit jacket that we don’t think anyone else would be able to pull off as well as he did.

“I was looking to make a bold statement; something that would allow me to stand out, while simultaneously complementing my beautiful bride,” explained the groom. “With Ashley’s approval, I decided to go with an apple red dinner jacket and customized every detail – from the shiny gold inner lining to the black shawl lapels to the inscription of our wedding date and initials on the inside pocket.”

The two walked hand in hand to take their place half way up the staircase and the ceremony began. They incorporated a purity ring ceremony and unity cross ceremony for extra personal touches to the ceremony. The best part is that the whole things was beautifully captured on video by One Love Productions and the couple can relive the ceremony anytime they want!

After the ceremony, the room was transformed into the most regal inspired red and gold reception space. From the red uplighting to the oversized crystal chandeliers to the shiny red linens and lush red roses, and everything in between.

There were two head rectangular tables draped in a shiny red linen and decorated with a tall floral arrangement of hydrangeas and roses that were surrounded by more white hydrangeas and roses, and tons of floating candles. The other round guest tables had a gold linen and similar centerpieces. Each place setting had a clear acrylic charger with gold foil rim wrapped in a red linen napkin and topped with a menu card.

The couple sat at a sweetheart table half way up the staircase in the same spot they stood moments before to exchange vows. The table had a gold textured linen and a few short arrangements of white hydrangeas and red roses. There was a gold initial of the first letter of each of their names on top the table for the perfect pop.

When guests entered the room, they were blown away. Maybe it was the transformation of the space, maybe it was the beauty of the room, but quite possible it was the cake!

The three-tiered wedding cake sat on a bejeweled cake stand that sat on top of a red sequin linen. The bottom and top tiers were the same white quilted pattern with gold beadwork. The middle tier was a shimmering gold. What made the cake so stunning were the red roses that separated each tier. Now that’s how you do a wedding cake!

Once the reception began, the couple made their grand entrance and went right into their first dance as husband and wife and barely stopped dancing the rest of the night. With the exception of a few breaks to eat dinner, cut the cake and toss the bouquet and garter, the dance floor was packed until the very end!

Congratulations to the happy couple!
