Rustic Romance in a Historic Mill

Feb 10, 2019

Mauve, red and blush natural styled shoot with industrial and rustic vibe at The Providence Cotton Mill near Charlotte, North Carolina

Just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina there is a 130-year-old mill that gives off the most amazing romantic rustic, industrial vibes. When this historic venue was paired with neutral and natural tones, this old-world charm styled shot was born.

“This styled shoot was inspired by historic, rustic love as well as elegant, natural colors including greens and reds,” explained the shoot’s photographer. “I chose The Providence Cotton Mill as the venue since there is so much history there.”

Not only did the style shoot feature a recently married couple as the bride and groom, but each of the bridesmaid / groomsman pairs were married couples, as well. Using real couples really allowed the romantic and charming side of this shoot to shine.

The bride wore a long sleeve, form fitting, lace gown. The sleeves and back were unlined lace that you could see through, adding a touch of romance to the style. Her hair was pulled back in a low and loose bun and left a few pieces out to sweep her face. Her makeup was light and natural, and she kept jewelry simple with a pair of teardrop earrings.

The wild and textured bridal bouquet was the perfect accessory to complete the bride’s look. It was a majority of different types of greenery and leaves, with a few roses that added a pop of color.

Opposite the bride, was the groom who wore a simple navy suit. He paired it was a light blue dress shirt and a grey dotted tie. Overall, the look and colors were pretty neutral so the pop of reds and oranges in his boutonniere were perfect.

The couple was joined by their bridal party. The whole bridal party was a little mismatch, but together it all looked like it was supposed to go together. The groomsmen each wore a slightly different colored navy suit and a different patterned tie. While the bridesmaids were each in the same mauve color, the dress styles were different, but the bouquets were all matching to keep the look cohesive.

Even the paper goods for this shoot were on point with the style and theme. The forest green outer envelope was lined with a flower design that felt natural and rustic. The deep red inner envelope gave that old world, romantic vibe that matched perfectly with the frayed edges on the linen paper of the actual invitation and inserts.

All around the venue there was exposed brick, white washed walls and tall, open windows. Each spot provided the perfect backdrop for pictures, each more beautiful than the next.

The group made their way over to the cake for a champagne toast and dessert. The single tier, semi-naked cake from Nona’s Sweets sat on top of a white pedestal stand. It was surrounded by loose greenery and a few blooms on top. The greenery swept down the stand on to the tabletop and wove through some accenting gold votive candle holders.

As they sipped their champagne and cut the cake, the group enjoyed the rest of their day finding new and unique places around the grounds, each one feeling just as rustic and romantic than the next.
