Something Blue

Southern styled shoot with elegant decor and vibrant blue tones at the Wormsloe Historic Site in Savannah, Georgia

At the end of a breathtaking avenue blanketed by live oak trees and Spanish moss, the grounds of a historic estate created the most picturesque setting for this southern styled shoot. The vision was brought to life with vibrant blue hues, an abundance of spring blooms and an adorable four-legged guest model.

“I quietly planned this shoot for months until I finally made the moves to make it an actual thing!” said the photographer. “I love the color blue for weddings and the venue is literally one of my most favorite places in Savannah...I wanted to join the two!”

Starting with the invitation suite, every detail from start to finish was elegant, classic and aligned with the blue color palette. On creamy cardstock stationery, simple block lettering was paired with sophisticated calligraphy in baby blue ink.

“I wanted the shoot to be based around the color blue,” said the photographer. “I have always been so inspired by different colors and textures, and the color blue just screams southern and graceful to me.”

For the bridesmaid’s dress, they went with a traditional (but not so traditional for a bridesmaid) white gown. It had gorgeous, lace-trimmed sheer bell sleeves, an open back and sheer lace overlay.  As for the bride, they chose a show-stopping light blue, strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline and intricate lace overlay.

“Different textures just sing to my soul,” said the photographer, “so we stuck with lace to add depth and detail to the gowns and to add to the southern vibe of the shoot.”

Both ladies wore minimal makeup and jewelry, with their hair in natural, loose beach waves. They were even joined by a precious four-legged friend from a local dog shelter, who wore a wreath made of eucalyptus, peonies and ranunculus. She stole the show and the hearts of every model and vendor, and was adopted immediately after the shoot!

“I loved taking photos of her slobbery smile to help showcase how loving and beautiful she is,” said the photographer. “She was so sweet and just excited to be around people!”

The space was filled with an abundance of soft spring florals, from the table arrangements to the bridal bouquets - and every installation in between. They used neutral florals in shades of blush and cream including peonies, ranunculus and roses, along with the varying shades of green from the mixed greenery. As the focal point, hydrangeas popped in shades of baby blue!

“I wanted the entire shoot to be filled to the brim full of neutral florals,” said the photographer. “I was sure to add plenty of eucalyptus because I love the underlying hues of light blue throughout the leaves.”

Surrounded by a canopy of live oaks with Spanish moss cascading down from the branches, the space needed little embellishment. They set up a rustic farm table with an exquisite tablescape, where the ladies and the pup posed in the radiant natural light.

“The space is completely beautiful as it is, and I wanted to make sure that the decor for the shoot didn’t overwhelm the venue,” said the photographer.

The wooden farm table was set with whitewashed wooden crossback chairs, topped with a statement centerpiece flower arrangement in a glass vase, and navy taper candles in antique gold holders. Each place setting featured textured gold flatware, a set of blue and white chinoiserie dinner plates, and a crystal chalice. Every detail was immaculate, and the models looked effortlessly chic with each pose.

“The models were absolutely beautiful and so easy to photograph, so they and the awesome vendor team made my job a dream!” said the photographer.

For dessert, they showcased a three-tiered ivory wedding cake with delicate floral detailing in vibrant blue icing. It was classic and elegant and was the perfect finishing touch for the dreamy tablescape design.

“The entire day was spent with old and new vendor friends and it was so comfortable!” said the photographer. “We giggled and snuggled up with Nimah, the shelter pup, while we ran away from the jumbo, man-eating, Georgia mosquitoes.”

Cheers to this team and their four-legged friend on a breathtaking spring styled shoot!
