Southern Oasis Wedding

Rachel + Bobby | Oct 12, 2019

Modern wedding with pops of merlot and a Southern oasis setting at The Mackey House in Savannah, Georgia

At a private oasis near historic downtown Savannah, a colonial mansion set the stage for Rachel and Bobby’s classic, modern wedding. Boasting Southern charm and modern elegance, the space blended perfectly with the seasonal color palette of earthy tones and pops of merlot. Throughout its sweeping acres, the unique property featured enchanting wooded landscapes, lakeside views and lush gardens.

“This was a wonderful Georgia destination wedding weekend for some fun storytelling adventures …” said the photographer.

Inside an adorable Airbnb, Rachel and her bridal party got ready in a lovely private suite. Showcasing exposed brick, romantic archways and French iron chandeliers, it was the perfect hidden gem for the bride-to-be and her loved ones to spend the morning sharing laughs, exchanging gifts and clinking glasses.

The bridesmaids changed out of their floral pajama sets into their mismatched merlot gowns, and were left speechless when Rachel emerged in her bridal look. She looked radiant in a sleeveless, ivory A-line gown with a gorgeous plunging neckline. It featured a romantic lace bodice, open back with button detailing, and a sheer train with exquisite lace trim. To complete the look, she wore statement crystal stud earrings and a pair of cobalt blue, suede block heels.

Bobby and his groomsmen turned heads in dapper Pantone blue suits, with merlot-colored ties and boutonnieres made of tiny rose buds. After the photographer captured all of the group and individual portraits on the colonial mansion’s wraparound porch and in the intimate courtyard next to the grand tiered fountain, it was time for the party to head to the ceremony site.

“Savannah, ahhh! How in love are we with your romantic spell?” said the photographer. “And so enamored with the venue and its enchanting views.”

In the venue’s open-air pavilion, offering panoramic views of the 300-year-old mossy oak trees, tropical palm trees, glistening lake and blossoming gardens, a modern countryside ceremony was set up for the couple to say “I do.” There were classic white garden chairs for seating, and a charming white pergola at the end of the stone aisle, with white drapery and a floral installation overflowing with eucalyptus, merlot dahlias and creamy roses.

“The colors definitely represented the season,” said the photographer, “and channeled the classic and romantic vibe they wanted for their day!”

Once her veil was in place and she had her fall-inspired bouquet in hand, Rachel was ready to descend the aisle and stand at the altar with Bobby. She looked breathtaking and graceful, and Bobby held her tight after her father and step-father gave her away. Under the pergola, there was a small table with a bible and a few candles for the service, during which Rachel's grandfather played the guitar.

After they exchanged vows and said their “I do’s” during a beautiful, emotional ceremony, Rachel and Bobby threw their hands up in celebration. While they snuck away for group shots on the venue’s grand staircase and intimate portraits in the neighboring wooded areas, their guests made their way to the reception tent - nestled in the venue grounds.

The tent was brought to life with string lights along the sides, and accentuated by white chiffon drapery and a classic, elegant white dance floor. There were cocktail rounds and tables scattered around the space with rustic lanterns, oversized candles and centerpiece flower arrangements. Each place setting had classic porcelain dinner plates with a deep berry napkin folded on top.

The bridesmaids and groomsmen made their entrance with incredible choreographed dances, followed by the newlyweds’ first dance and parent dances. As the sun set in the clear blue, fall sky, the fading natural light created the perfect warmth that added to the romance of the evening. The speeches ranged from funny to emotional, and the entertainment kept the party going all night long on the dance floor.

“The DJ entertained...and he delivered!!!” said the photographer. “Everyone danced - making the day wonderful to capture!”

Everyone indulged in a decadent buffet spread, and sipped on cold delights - using their new personalized koozies! There was even a polaroid guest book for the couple’s friends and families to make their mark.

For the wedding cake, they served a two-tiered buttercream dessert with layers of red velvet, chocolate and vanilla - topped with a cluster of roses and a “Mr. & Mrs. Bogia” topper. The only thing that could have made this display sweeter, was the accompanying donut wall!

With cake still on their faces, Rachel and Bobby joined their people on the dance floor - now lit up with multicolored neon lights that stood out brilliantly against the night sky. They danced the night away, knowing it would be a night they would never forget.

When the celebrations came to a close, the guests waved their sparklers in the air as the newlyweds hopped on an authentic trolley bus - transporting them down cobblestone streets and through majestic oaks into their happily ever after.

“It was a day filled with extremely fun dynamics,” said the photographer, “that tiered from the Airbnb located in the historic part of Savannah while the girls got ready, all the way through the send off!”

We wish Rachel and Bobby a lifetime of love and happiness!
