Southern Summer Blues

Alex + Drew | Jun 13, 2019

Blush and blue rustic elegance with a simple and romantic style and a playful pup at Alhambra Hall in Charleston, South Carolina

Alex first met Drew when he was actually her patient. He asked her to dinner and it quickly became a whirlwind of a romance. Two months later, Drew proposed while they were visiting his parents. Even their dog, Meeka was there for it, just like she was for their wedding day.

Wedding day was a beautiful summer afternoon with the most picturesque southern backdrop. The rustic romance was brought to life with the blue and blush color palette and every detail was so special, especially when it came to incorporating Meeka.

“Our inspiration was our doggie, Meeka,” said the bride. “She is such a big part of our lives, so we wanted to incorporate her in our big day! We went with a rustic theme to tie everything together!”

The morning began with silk robes and some champagne as Alex and her two bridesmaids were pampered with hair and makeup. Once the jeweled floral hairpiece was pinned into her half-up, half-down curled hairstyle, it was time for Alex to get dressed. She admired her strapless beaded gown as it hung from the customized hanger above her. When she put the dress on, she looked and felt like a true princess.

In their matching blue dresses, Alex’s bridesmaids fluffed her dress to give the skirt it’s full effect and that’s when Meeka joined and wanted her skirt fluffed, too!

“I felt like a princess in my dress!” Alex said. “They even took some material from my gown and made a matching wedding tutu for Meeka to walk down the aisle in!”

The ladies all grabbed their bouquets and headed outside for a few pictures. The mostly white bouquets had a few pops of color with some blush roses and blue thistle. The greenery added a natural, rustic feel to the flowers. And don’t worry, Meeka wasn’t forgotten about and had her own flowers she wore around her collar.

Meanwhile, Drew was putting the finishing touches on his outfit. He wore a three piece khaki suit. His blue and pink plaid tie added the perfect southern touch to his look. He headed outside and stood outside on the property’s picturesque front lawn awaiting to see his almost wife for the first time.

Alex made her way across the grass just as Drew turned around to catch a glimpse of his bride. It was a heartfelt moment for the couple that was made all the more special when Meeka joined them with the sweetest “I loved her first” sign.

In the driveway there was the cutest 1967 turquoise blue Ford truck that brought the rustic romance feeling to life. Alex and Drew cozied up in the bed of the truck surrounded by blue, pink and white pillows. It was the perfect prop for couple pictures and bridal party pictures, once the whole group joined in.

As the group finished up pictures, guests started to arrive and took their seats at the waterfront, outdoor ceremony spot. Rustic white lanterns hung from the big oak tree at the front of the ceremony and matching white lanterns lined the aisle. Two rustic wooden barrels with oversized arrangements lined the back of the area where guests walked in and could grab a program fan, because let’s be real, it was June in the south and not exactly cool out.

Once everyone had taken their seats, the ceremony began and Drew made his way down the aisle with Meeka, who absolutely stole the show.

“The most special moment for me was seeing my husband and Meeka walk down the aisle,” said the bride.

Drew’s groomsmen in matching three piece khaki suits followed behind him. Then the bridesmaids took their spots just before Alex and her dad came down the aisle. Shortly after Alex and Drew joined hands, they shared their first kiss as husband and wife and walked back down the aisle, this time together.

While Alex and Drew went to a property next door for some swoon worthy sunset pictures on a pier, guests headed inside to the swoon worthy rustically elegant reception. The space itself wowed with exposed wooden beams and wrought iron triple tiered chandeliers. In the center, on each wall was a floor to ceiling brick fireplace with a wooden mantle decorated with candles and greenery.

Lining the room were round guest tables set with classic white linens and blue napkins for that pop of color. Sweet and petite floral arrangements decorated the tables while the wooden folding chairs brought even more rustic flare. In front of one of the fireplaces, overlooking the dance floor was a sweetheart table set with a pink velvet loveseat for a special touch.

Guests grabbed a signature cocktail, which was of course named after Meeka, and took their seats while they waited for the couple to join the party. Once they did, the evening got started with a few first dances and then the southern BBQ dinner buffet opened. Dinner ended when Alex and Drew cut their two-tiered cake and opened up the cupcake display. Then, the dance floor opened, and they danced the night away.

When it was time for the party to end, guests headed outside to light the way for the newlyweds with sparklers. Alex and Drew ended the night surrounded by their favorite people with the biggest smiles on their faces!

Congratulations to the happy couple!
