Springtime in the South

Dec 1, 2019

Creamy ivory, peach tones and gold accents infused with glamorous décor for this Southern styled shoot at HollyOaks Plantation in Savannah, Georgia

Set at HollyOaks Plantation in Savannah, the pearl of Georgia’s coast, this styled shoot is giving us all the springtime wedding inspiration. Surrounded by live oak trees blanketed in Spanish moss, this classic and charming historic estate boasts custom iron work, unparalleled river and marsh views, and exquisite heirloom gardens.

“Although tourists enjoy the squares and structures of the historic downtown, locals are seeking out the residential and commercial structures that are reemerging in their Southern beauty,” said the photographer. “HollyOaks Plantation is one such structure experiencing its own renaissance.”

The invitation suite is as timeless and luxurious as the rest of the shoot’s details. Each piece is on classic, off-white cardstock with deep teal calligraphy and a special design featuring a live oak tree. In the middle of the layout sits a single peach-colored garden rose bud.

“The event designer designed this romantic styled shoot in shades of peach to fill the images with the innocence that grows from wisdom and love,” said the photographer.

For the bridal look, the model turned heads in a strapless, A-line ivory wedding gown. The dress features a lace bodice with a sweetheart neckline, and a tulle skirt with intricate lace trim. Her dark hair was pulled back into a low bun with loose strands, and she wore crystal drop earrings, silver embellished heels, and a cathedral veil

Her groom donned a fitted tuxedo complete with a white dinner jacket, classic black bow tie, and a boutonniere made of a single peach-colored garden rose bud. The bridesmaid shimmered in the rays of natural light in a golden, sequined gown.

“The event designer chose this beaded beauty to continue the golden touch of class through the wedding party,” said the photographer. “Each attendant will enhance the timeless décor as she moves through the guests, glowing in gold.”

Known for its enchanting gardens, the estate features an array of heirloom camellias and azaleas in addition to countless magnolias and live oak trees covered in Spanish moss. To incorporate even more blooms, the floral designer created two large arrangements in cast urns to set a focal point for the ceremony, while fresh Southern smilax cascaded down the railings from the balcony.

“Picture the bridal party descending the sweeping staircase to meet the groom and officiant below after the honored mothers have been seated,” said the photographer. “The family and friends turn their attention to the appearance of the stunning bride on the smilax draped balcony lit in golden hues from the shimmering sunshine on the bluff.”

To match the bridal bouquet, the floral designer created a custom piece enhancing the double bar on the veranda down to the floor, filling the space with an elegant mix of ivory patience, yellow and peach garden roses, hyacinth, tulips, olive branch, lisianthus, and hellebore. Along the head table and on top of the cocktail rounds, vases and candles sit with a blend of greens, garden roses, and tulips.

“Each vase gives off a transcendent, old world vibe,” said the photographer.

After a touching ceremony, the cocktail hour commenced in the garden, which houses an abundance of camellia varieties and the double bar under the veranda. Cocktail hour linens in fresh mint green and creamy ivory are paired with sweet peach shades from the dinner display while gold accents add a touch of elegance.

“Since the bride and groom are surrounded by the rich history of the South, the signature cocktail is an appropriate Old Fashioned,” said the photographer.

The overall display is true Southern elegance, and the estate itself is perfectly suited to host glamorous soirees. For the dinner party, guests are treated to a picturesque view of the sunset over the river seated at their table, graced with luxurious peach linens complementing the tones in the florals while ivory taper candles, antique cane back chairs, gold flatware and dinner napkins add a soft touch.

“The vintage china selections represent decades of significance to HollyOaks,” said the photographer.

A custom, three-tier wedding cake adds a splash of modern influence with its gray and ivory marbled icing adorned with sprays of fresh greenery and mint green macarons - a special sweet treat for a springtime high tea in a garden such as the one featured.

“Starting with the fine details, bridal portraits, then on to the ceremony, couple’s portraits, cocktails, reception and cake, the entire day moved seamlessly,” said the photographer. “Just like any other perfectly planned and professionally led wedding day!”

From the florals to the tablescape to the mansion itself, every detail of this styled shoot helped create the perfect setting for a springtime wedding in the South!
