Summer Wedding Keeps it Cool with a Trolley and Special Musical Performances

Karen + Tom | Aug 26, 2018

Classic, garden summer wedding with pops of teal blue and pink at Merrimon-Wynne in Raleigh, North Carolina

Karen and Tom were both living in New York City when they met on OkCupid. As soon as they met, they knew there was an instant connection. It didn’t take the couple long to decide this was it for them. When it came time to propose, Tom took Karen back to the spot overlooking the Hudson River where they first said, “I love you,” and got down on one knee.

When it came time to plan the wedding, the couple decided to plan it in Raleigh where Karen’s family lives. The day was full of family, opera, perfect weather and pops of pink.

“We wanted our wedding to feel like an elegant, joyful garden party,” said the bride.

The summer wedding was set for a Sunday in August and it couldn’t have been a more perfect day. The outdoor ceremony was set on the greenest looking grass in front of a large tree that provided the right amount of shade for the live musicians. There was an arbor made of wooden branches with two oversized floral clusters on each corner with an ivory drape in between that swept the ground on each side. The florals were full of hydrangeas, roses and greenery in the prettiest pink and white palettes. Each aisle was marked with matching smaller clusters of flowers tied to each end chair. As guests took their seats, they helped themselves to a paper fan – such a smart touch for an August afternoon!

Before Karen made her way down the aisle arm in arm with her dad, the two shared a special first look together. Her dad saw her dressed in her ballgown with embellished top and illusion back with button detailing and it took his breath away.  She wore her hair pulled back in a classic low-do and finished the look with teardrop earrings and a fun pink lip to match her flowers.

As the bride and her father walked down the aisle, everyone watched in awe of the special moment when Karen and Tom first saw each other. Once Karen and her dad made their way to the front, the sentimental ceremony began. Karen’s aunt officiated the special ceremony that included poem readings from the bride’s brothers and even included a special musical piece.

“One very special moment from our ceremony was the musical interlude between readings, which was composed by the bride's father and performed by him on harp along with the string quartet,” Karen said.

During the ceremony, Karen’s bridesmaids stood up next to her in their teal blue dresses holding matching bouquets made up of the most beautiful roses in pinks and ivory. On the other side were Tom’s groomsmen standing next to him in grey suits with ties and pocket squares in the same teal blue as the bridesmaids. Tom wore a grey suit of a slightly lighter shade, accented with an ivory tie and pocket square.

The ceremony ended, and the couple shared their first kiss as husband and wife, and there wasn’t a sweeter moment.

“The most anticipated moment was probably when we were officially announced as bride and groom,” said Karen. “Looking back at the photos of that moment it's clear we just couldn't contain our giddy excitement!”

After the ceremony, the wedding party stepped in to the cutest trolley for the most fun pictures perfectly captured by Rose Trail Images. Makes us think every wedding needs a trolley like this to take pictures on!

Meanwhile inside the venue, guests grabbed their escort cards and found their seats at one of the long family style tables. Each table was set with mahogany Chiavari chairs and a decorated with a greenery runner in the center which was accented with different sized bud vases filled with a few blooms. Each place setting had a white plate with a scalloped edge and an ivory napkin with a silverware pocket on top.

The arbor from the ceremony was brought inside and placed behind the head table, over the cake table to make a big statement, and boy did it. The three tier white cake had a horizontal textured icing design, two side floral clusters and one floral topper. The arbor perfectly framed out the cake and it was stunning.

Garlands – that the couple and their siblings had stayed up all night before assembling – hung from the venue’s tall vaulted ceilings with exposed white wooden beams. In the center of the room was a single oversized crystal chandelier that was the perfect final touch for one magical wedding reception look.

Once the reception started, the couple shared their choreographed first dance together and then enjoyed their first meal as husband and wife thanks to Beau Catering. After dinner they cut the cake, then real party started! The couple spent lots of time curating the perfect song list to keep the party going all night.

They did take one break to sing happy birthday to the couple’s nephew and ring bearer. Not just any happy birthday but with the bride being an opera singer there were several other opera singers there who joined in to make it one special rendition of the song.

Thanks to C & D Events, the entire day was flawless for the couple. Before the day ended, guests grabbed a jar of homemade strawberry jam made by the groom’s mom using strawberries the bride and groom picked themselves – so cute! It was the perfect summer day for the perfect summer wedding!

Congratulations to the happy couple!
