The Art of Love

Aug 14, 2019

Art-inspired styled shoot with works by a local artist and accompanying vibrant color palette at The Providence Cotton Mill in Maiden, North Carolina

To celebrate fine art and its ability to invoke excitement and joy, this team of wedding creatives pulled together a breathtaking styled shoot with local art as the focal point. Nestled in the outskirts of Charlotte, the industrial wedding venue space was the idyllic setting - offering an old-world charm with an inviting outdoor feel.

“Art can transport you to another place and time,” said the planner from Details Wedding Planning, “it can make you question perspective, and it can evoke emotion.”

Art is commonplace in weddings, especially in the style and design of invitations. This invitation suite integrated art by including vibrant swatches of color that popped against the off-white cardstock and playful hand-drawn calligraphy.

For her bridal look, the model wore a diamond-white A-line gown with a sweetheart neckline and dainty thin straps. The bodice featured a subtle embossed lace design, while the skirt boasted layers of tiered fabric with exquisite horsehair trim. She topped it off with a laid-back updo and classic bold lip.

“The dress is fun and flirty,” said the planner, “one that begs to be on the dance floor all night.”

The groom looked dapper in a classic navy three-piece suit with a pair of sleek black velvet loafers. Picking up the wedding color palette, he also wore a coral bow tie and matching pocket square.

“The entire wedding wouldn’t be complete without the two things that shine in this shoot above all - the smiles on the faces of the bride and the groom,” said Details Wedding Planning. “This real-life couple looks at each other like newlyweds on their wedding day.”

Surrounded by green fields and a plush forest, the historic wedding venue features a soaring ceiling, allowing sunlight to stream in through the arched, open windows. With its timeless solid brick construction, exposed wooden beams and distressed plaster walls, the space provided the perfect contrast to the vibrant works of art.

When guests first entered, they were greeted by a sign at the door with a quote that reads, “In art as in love, instinct is enough.” Inside, a makeshift ceremony altar was created with a wispy ivory fabric that draped asymmetrically around the artwork on display.

“The venue itself, which has a grand, industrial presence, stands in juxtaposition to the soft fabric of the draping that surrounds the artwork,” said the wedding planning company.

The local artist’s original abstract works were full of movement and life, integrating beautiful gold leaf design. Her pieces were not only the backdrop, but also the inspiration for this styled shoot, as the colors within the paintings served as the color palette for the wedding. Bright and joyful, the corals and greens were echoed throughout the linens, signage, cake and more.

“The use of bright corals, greens, purples, and whites in the collection invoke a sense of beauty, excitement, and simple joy,” said Details Wedding Planning. “Sounds like a wedding!”

Hanging from the drapery were feminine floral installations overflowing with pink and red blooms, dried pampas grasses and silver dollar eucalyptus. The romantic flowers in the selections ranged from garden roses and ranunculus to dahlias and daisies - an arrangement that was mirrored in the bridal bouquet and table centerpiece.

The guest experience was enhanced by the soft acoustic guitarist that played as the couple exchanged their vows. When cocktail hour began, guests sipped on signature drinks from the mobile white bar, including “A Sweet Embrace,” a champagne and limoncello cocktail, and “Hat’s Off,” a champagne and berry cocktail.

“And they won’t want to miss grabbing an artistic appetizer served on paint palettes that fit in perfectly with the feel of the day,” said the planner.

As they indulged in decadent sips and light bites, guests participated in a unique kind of guest book - where instead of their signature, they were invited to add brushstrokes on what would be an original painting for the couple to take home.

When it was time to take their seats, guests sat in gold Chiavari chairs at a fully set table with a soft, olive-green linen. The tablescape showcased beautiful place settings with a layer of acrylic plates including textured gold-rimmed chargers, gold flatware, coral napkins and hand-painted place cards. The one-of-a-kind centerpiece featured flowers cascading down a sleek gold base.

“The artistry doesn’t end there,” said the planning company. “The florals on both the cake table and the sweetheart table are woven into the linens themselves, like brushstrokes on a canvas.”

The wedding cake was a four-tiered stunner, crafted with watercolor accents and edible gold leaf that mirrors the shine in the artist’s pieces from the ceremony backdrop. After cake, the couple danced the night away in front of an outdoor green boxwood wall, lined with cast urn shrubbery and illuminated by a string of market lights.

Finally - what could be more joyful than a confetti shower?! The colorful spectacle truly demonstrated the celebratory feel that every wedding should have.

“There’s a reason why wedding exits are popular with both couples and guests - they’re FUN!” said the wedding planner. “And there’s really nothing more fun than twirling around in a sea of color.”

Congratulations to this team of wedding creatives!
