The “Time of My Life,” Thanks to a Shoe Compliment

Samantha + Grant | Nov 18, 2017

Rustic Romantic Wedding at Millikan Farms in the NC Triad

They say complimenting a girl’s shoes will get you far. And it definitely worked for Grant.

Samantha and Grant met five years ago through mutual friends, and Samantha wasn’t immediately interested, Grant’s sweet personality (and shoe-complimenting charm) won her over. Fast forward three years as the two started looking for rings!

One day, Samantha and Grant were enjoying the best day date in Durham and decided to swing into a jewelry store to look at rings “as a joke.” Samantha picked out a few and showed her favorites to Grant and the two then went on about their day. Little did she know, Grant had a plan in mind! The next day, the two were getting ready to go to a family gathering (Samantha doing the girl thing and nagging Grant about getting dressed) and the next thing she knew, he was down on one knew asking her to spend the rest of her life with him! Sobbing, Samantha was finally able to answer, “yes!” Talk about a perfect engagement story!

Samantha and Grant designed their dream wedding day with simplicity in mind.

As Samantha says, “I knew I didn't want anything over the top but loved the rustic look, while it still having a very girly feel to it.”

Their wedding colors of blush, navy, charcoal and champagne perfectly complemented their barn venue choice of Millikan Farms. Simple but gorgeous cream flowers with blush accents dressed up the venue while an abundance of greenery filled the space with a lush, natural feel. After spending the day getting ready with their bridesmaids and groomsmen, Samantha and Grant prepared for what would be the best moment of their day – their first look.

Samantha shared, “My absolute favorite part of the wedding was our first look. We did one before the ceremony and had written letters that we read before turning to see each other... there were many, many tears as we took in what all was about to happen. It was a magical moment for sure.”

Grant’s breath was taken away when he saw his bride for the first time; Samantha looked like a princess in her flowing dress with its sheer beaded back and lace cap-sleeve detail while her low bun updo adorned in flowers and braids added texture and an easy-going touch. After their perfect first look, Samantha and Grant headed to their sunset ceremony to get married!

The ceremony took place under an open-air covered area of the barn and twinkling lights added to the romantic mood as the sun set over the rolling hills. After their vows were said and rings exchanged, Samantha and Grant sealed the deal with the kiss and, to their surprise, fireworks!

Says Samantha, “I feel like the most special moment of our wedding day was our first kiss as husband and wife. As soon as we did, someone shot off fireworks in the background and it was so special. Neither of us had any idea it was going to happen so the shock of it and us being husband and wife... it gave me goose bumps and I was so excited to continue the fun into the reception!”

Their reception was a blast and was the complete embodiment of the vision that Samantha and Grant had for their day. The space was filled with blush and charcoal gray hues and DIY centerpieces of pictures, floating candles, greenery, and soft florals. Cream drapery lined the walls leading up to the wooden rafters and the soaring ceiling featured strings of market lights to set the mood. Various wooden signs made by Grant’s cousin decorated the space and fit in perfectly with the rustic romantic feel. Personalized navy koozies featured Samantha and Grant’s new last name and wedding hashtag as a fun way to personalize the day.

The entire day was a dream, full of laughs, happy tears, and so many memories that will last a lifetime, all perfectly captured by Jessi Page Photography

The night ended on the most fun note and Samantha shared, “Our last dance was the most fun part of our wedding day. Our DJ had decided to play "Time of my Life" from the “Dirty Dancing” movie and we all lined up and danced down an aisle we had created with our dancing partners. It was the best way to end my wedding night!”

Congratulations to the Trexlers!
