Traditional, Elegant Celebration

Taylor + Justin | Oct 12, 2019

Traditional Catholic wedding, followed by an elegant reception with a champagne color palette paired with gold accents at The Cookery in Durham, North Carolina

In the modern world of dating, Taylor and Justin met where so many other couples find love - on a dating app.

“So glad we both swiped right!” said Taylor.

Justin planned the most romantic proposal at the lake Taylor grew up on in Northern Indiana. On a scenic walk one afternoon, they rounded the corner for Taylor to find a "will you marry me" sign in lights, paired with roses and champagne, of course!

“We spent the weekend celebrating with family,” said Taylor. “It was perfect.”

They said their “I do’s” with a traditional Catholic wedding ceremony, followed by a lively celebration at an industrial-chic venue boasting exposed brick walls, distinctive metalwork, vaulted ceilings and an outdoor cobblestoned garden and a courtyard. The champagne color palette was classic and elegant, incorporating black and gold elements.

“We wanted to focus totally on each other and the idea of bringing two families together,” said Taylor.

To accompany the color palette and theme, Taylor’s bridesmaids wore gorgeous, mismatched champagne-colored gowns. Inside the luxe bridal suite, the ladies helped Taylor transform into her wedding white.

Taylor was truly a vision in an off-white, backless crepe gown with a plunging neckline, bustle and delicate button detailing down the back. She paired the look with classic satin pointed-toe heels, rhinestone cluster earrings and a dainty pendant necklace. Her hair was swept back into a sleek low bun, and she added a thin, crystal embellished belt for a glamorous finishing touch.

Justin and his groomsmen went with classic black tuxedos paired with white shirts, patent leather shoes, black bow ties and chevron patterned socks with their individual initials monogrammed on them. Their boutonnieres were made of a single, cream-colored garden rose bud.

“We wanted total simplicity,” said Taylor.

The church needed little embellishment, showcasing antique elements and really brilliant stained glass windows. With her veil in place and her arm laced through her father’s, Taylor waltzed down the aisle to stand in front of her soon-to-be husband.

Once Taylor and Justin were standing eye-to-eye, hand-in-hand, they exchanged vows during an emotional, traditional Catholic ceremony in front of their closest family and friends. To finally say “I do” and share their first kiss as a married couple in front of their loved ones was a moment they would never forget.

“We must say that the most important part for us was being surrounded by those we love the most,” said Taylor.

Following the ceremony, Taylor, Justin and their wedding party joined the photographer for some photos by the charming, historic Old Well structure in Chapel Hill. The natural sunlight streaming through the trees enhanced the glow of love that radiated from everyone’s faces.

“We did take time between our ceremony and reception to capture photos so we were able to be fully present with our guests at our cocktail hour,” said Taylor.

Inside the reception space, the building’s industrial-chic atmosphere paired effortlessly with the elegant tablescape design, classic floral arrangements and neutral color palette. There were pendant light fixtures that hung over the table settings, and an extensive wooden bar along the side of the exposed brick wall. As soon as guests walked in, they were greeted by a chalkboard seating chart marked with a capital “T” and “J”.

“The beautiful thing about the venue is that the space itself felt decorated,” said Taylor. “From the classic brick, light fixtures, and bar - it fit our vibe perfectly.”

There were banquet tables set with sand-colored tablecloths and wood folding garden chairs, topped with tea lights in gold geometric glasses and centerpiece floral arrangements. Each place setting had a black linen napkin, black ceramic charger, and a menu tied with black ribbon and a wax melt. The florals in the decor matched the bridal bouquet, a sophisticated selection of hydrangeas, roses and a mixture of greenery.

“We wanted tables that were tasteful, full, and spoke a sophisticated elegance,” said Taylor. “We chose to have every other table decorated differently in creams and greens.”

When Taylor and Justin made their grand entrance, their friends and families cheered them on - all the way to the dance floor. They shared their first dance as an officially married couple in front of their loved ones, and really made an impression!

“We also took dance lessons for about six weeks before our wedding,” said Taylor. “It made our first dance so special and I think we even surprised ourselves!”

After the families and wedding party gave toasts that brought out happy tears and belly laughs, the on-site chef fired up some delectable bites, while the bar served bubbly and even offered cigars.

“Justin and Taylor were one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever met!” said the photographer. “Their day was full of joy and laughter and their love for one another is so evident.”

Before the night came to a close, guests were encouraged to treat themselves to some locally made chocolates and toffee for a sweet takeaway, while the little ones got to go home with a special coloring book. It was a night full of so much love, celebration and pure happiness.

“Our words of wisdom would be to not forget what the day is about and don't let the planning become  overwhelming,” said Taylor. “Enjoy every second as it goes so quickly.”

Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs.!
