Vineyard Engagement Session

Katie + Hunter | Jul 13, 2020

Light and airy engagement styled shoot featuring a summery vineyard setting at Mision Lago Estate in Thonotosassa, Florida

To inspire future proposals and engagement sessions, this team of creatives pulled off a romantic, summery styled shoot on picturesque vineyard grounds. They paired soft floral designs and vintage elements with cool blues and warm yellow tones.

“We came up with the idea of doing two different setups,” said Abigale of Weddings by Abi, “one being a casual picnic in a vineyard and the other being a more formal picnic.”

The formal picnic setup was created in the middle of a stone walkway lined with towering Mediterranean cypress trees. They gathered at a wooden sweetheart table atop layered, boho-chic rugs and plush pink poufs for floor seating.

Katie looked radiant in a floor-length turquoise halter gown, worn with a thin pearl embellished headband. For Hunter’s more formal look, he wore navy trousers, a white dress shirt and a pair of trendy suspenders.

Across the ivory table runner, there were taper candles in antique gold holders, a garland of greenery and a foraged centerpiece arrangement with a bounty of eucalyptus, wildflowers, blush garden roses, ranunculus and a collection of feminine florals bursting in tangerine and fuchsia hues.

The tablescape showcased place settings with a scalloped porcelain plate, dusty rose napkin, brushed gold flatware and crystal goblet. Nestled on the rattan picnic basket, there was a medley of green grapes, juicy red strawberries and peony pink macarons.

There was also a small floor lounge area set up with an off-white tasseled crochet blanket and faux fur blush throw pillows. Katie and Hunter sat in the shade of an ecru-fringed umbrella while sampling flaky croissants and jam served on a wicker accent table.

After the photographer captured Hunter on one knee, the couple celebrated over a vibrant charcuterie board overflowing with decadent cheeses, artisan meats and handfuls of mixed berries. The snacks were topped off with custom iced sugar cookies decorated with engagement rings and wedding cakes.

The more casual picnic setup was situated in the middle of the wedding venue’s enchanting vineyard, amongst rows of luscious grapevines. A charming white teepee tent was pitched with sprigs of eucalyptus dangling from the top, paired with layered woven rugs and plush velvet accent pillows in shades of Turkish blue and canary.

“This venue makes you feel like you are in a different country!” said Abigale.

For Katie’s casual look, she changed into a pale dandelion-yellow dress with a V-neck, cinched waist and a summery floral print. Hunter complemented the warm, natural tones in khaki slacks and a relaxed white button-down with rolled sleeves.

Scattered across the rugs, there were cobalt blue taper candles, loose pastel florals and a gold metal hurricane. Next to the rust-colored wicker picnic basket, there were bunches of grapes, an elaborate charcuterie board and a tin platter of assorted macarons.

After capturing the second proposal, the photographer followed the couple as they strolled hand-in-hand through the intimate vineyard grounds. Once they made it to the barn, Hunter twirled Katie beneath the glow of twinkling market lights.

“We didn't want the shoot to be too styled, because we wanted it to be a realistic option for couples,” said Abigale.

With realistic options came realistic weather, and although the typical Florida summer showers challenged the team with a few rain delays, they didn’t hinder the final product of the shoot.

“Eventually it stopped raining long enough and we were able to get some beautiful shots!” said Abigale.

They even had the opportunity to gift the photos to the models, a recently engaged couple who got to use the shots as their own engagement photos!

“One of my favorite parts about the shoot was at the very end when the couple was in their casual wear and they were walking with a bike,” said Abigale, “they were just laughing and having a great time!”

Basking in the sunlight and each other’s love, the couple rolled the Tiffany-blue vintage bike, with a basket full of bright blooms, past cypress trees and into golden hour.
