Katie + Tommy | Dec 7, 2019
Winter wonderland-themed wedding with bright whites and silver accents at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Charlotte, North Carolina
For Katie and Tommy, it was a summer vacation romance. Both have family roots in Greece and were vacationing with their families when they were first introduced over coffee. They spent a few days getting to know each other before heading home and parting ways, and when both families returned the following year, Katie and Tommy knew there was a spark.
“By the end of their time together, they decided they couldn’t spend another year apart and their love story began,” said the PR rep.
With Christmas being Katie’s favorite holiday and also the day they got engaged the year prior, a winter wonderland-themed wedding was a no-brainer! The day was infused with Greek food, music and traditions that held special meaning for the couple.
“With a frosted white and silver color palette and tons of string lights and candles, they created their magically romantic dream wedding,” said the PR rep.
Their fairytale day began inside the bridal suite, where Katie and her bridesmaids lounged in matching violet and ivory pajama sets. Once they were all dolled up, the ladies slipped on their forest green velvet gowns, paired with ivory faux fur shawls.
For her bridal look, Katie channeled Kate Middleton in an ivory, satin crepe ball gown with long lace sleeves and a dramatic neckline. She wore a thin silver embellished headband in her high bun, and a pair of sheer lace ivory pumps.
“At the bride's house, male family members from the groom's side delivered Katie's shoes to her,” said the PR rep. “As they helped Katie put her shoes on, they had to tuck money into the bottom of the shoe until it fit just right!”
While the ladies posed outside with their classy bouquets full of creamy peonies, garden roses and hydrangeas, Tommy and his groomsmen got suited up in their dapper black and white tuxedos.
“The ‘shaving of the groom’ was very memorable for Tommy as some of his closest family and friends helped him shave and get ready for the ceremony,” said the PR rep.
After capturing photos in front of the grand Christmas tree, decked out in red and gold ornaments, the wedding parties made their way to the cathedral. Out front, the staircase was wrapped in garlands of greenery and lined with floor lanterns.
Inside, the ends of the pews were adorned with handfuls of baby’s breath, tied with champagne organza ribbon. As Katie walked up the steps toward the double doors, decorated with wreaths and red bows on either side, her lace-trimmed cathedral veil trailed behind her elegantly.
She joined Tommy at the altar, surrounded by vibrant Christmas poinsettias and close friends and family. Following a heartfelt and traditional ceremony, the couple shared their much-anticipated first kiss as they were finally pronounced husband and wife!
As the reception kicked off, guests stepped into a winter wonderland where Christmas trees glistened and abundant candlelight created a warm ambience. All of the tables were outfitted in mismatched ivory lace, ice blue and silver shimmering linens.
Each table was set with Chiavari chairs and topped with festive tablescapes showcasing mixed greenery, frosted pinecones, florals and candlelight. Place settings featured textured, gold-edged glass chargers, gold antique flatware and gold-rimmed glassware. Hanging above the main table, there was a greenery installation with clear glass ornaments dangling like icicles.
They served bottles of Katie's dad's homemade red wine, and each food station was themed with a nod to their Greek heritage, as well as the couple’s home states for a personal touch: crabs from Maryland and BBQ from North Carolina!
Katie and Tommy shared their first dance in each other’s arms, beneath a canopy of billowing white drapery, twinkling fairy lights and a gorgeous crystal chandelier. Soon after, all of their guests joined them on the dance floor where they partied the night away across the monogrammed spotlight.
“They also had a Greek band with a singer, clarinet-player, and violin-player brought in straight from Greece getting everyone dancing all night long!” said the PR rep.
Their buttercream wedding cake was a tasteful way to top off the evening, boasting five tiers of edible embellishments and lace details, and topped with floral garnishes. They filled their sparkly, silver-dipped champagne flutes with bubbly, and toasted to a lifetime of happiness.
After the sparkler festivities at the end of the night, the newlyweds embraced beneath a magical snow flurry before making their grand exit.
Congratulations, Katie and Tommy!
